Scorpius Controller
#1

After 14 years the Scorpius Controller is about to undergo its first upgrade, a back lit screen.
Configurable on/off to conserve battery life.
The existing micro has all 32 pins used but we were able to repurpose the vibrator GPIOs to supply a backlight circuit. Phew.

And an artwork change to reflect the changes made to the button function . Brake button repurposed as an auxiliary button and the menu button repurposed as a menu and light control button.

We had to rework the board to suit the new lcd screen. Here’s the new board design.
No other mods are possible with the current configuration because we have exhausted every single available GPIO off the Atmel processor. I’m happy with 3 knobs and 3 buttons….simple to understand and use.

And a close up of the board where it all happens. As you can see it’s fully booked out.
The addition of a back lit screen was only possible by removing the vibrator option which was never utilised. This was meant for fuel and penalty notifications via the throttle vibrating but two way comms means a compromise in throttle to car control so it was dropped.
