Newbie

Hi.
I am brand new to the hobby.  I retired fairly recently and have been attracted to slot cars for a few years.
I bought a Policar track set and some Scalextric cars but realised on setting it up, that it was too large for me to have it permanently set up, unless I use my attic, which will need a good clear out.
So in the mean time, I have bought a Carrera Go set (1/43) so I can have a permanent track downstairs.  I am lucky in that there is a good slot car dealer very close to me and also a racing club, who have open nights, once a month, for newbies.
My main interest is classic cars and in particular British cars from the 60s and 70s.  Minis, Jaguar, Aston Martin etc.  I am as interested in creating a vintage diorama and collecting period cars, as I am in the racing side.  Probably more so.
These are my first 2 minis.

I also have a couple of lovely E-Type Jags.
Huge amount to learn, especially on tuning my cars.

Cheers.

At the moment I am running 1/32 cars on my 1/43 track, with some success.  I don't suppose this would work with those wide, GT and Le Mans cars but for my Minis and E-Types, it works fine, though strategically placed fencing helps keep the wider cars on track.  I haven't tuned any of my cars but they can all go incredibly fast on this set up and even with fencing and magnatraction, can fly off, into the fencing, at corners.  So there is still plenty of challenge, improving lap times.
I am pleased with my self designed layout, which makes the most of my limited space.  I hope to be getting some scenery over the next few weeks and hopefully get my Policar 1/32 track, up and running after Christmas.

I have acquired some retro pits and grandstands.  Unfortunately, being 1/32, they rather dwarf the small 1/43 track.  Should work well though, when I get my 1/32 track up and running.
