Scorpius MPD Nitrous Lane Brain for Carrera.
#1

Hi Guys,
As you may know the MPD decoder will be configured to 13 separate products hence the name Multi Protocol Decoder.

Here’s the MPD configured as a lane change controller for Carrera. The decoder can receive data via wireless or via the power in wire pair. The decoder has 2 photo transistor circuits. One for lane changing and one for anti collision.
The MPD can run a single or double lane changer. In both circumstances anti collision is possible.
So it’s perfect for a Carrera Lane Changer.

Advantages:
1. Anti Collision function.
2. Track telemetry. Each Lane Brain is given a unique ID. Perfect for pit lane, pit bay and sector timing.
3. Ability to upgrade from 6 cars to 24 cars. Requires Nitrous car decoder.
4. Perfect for Carrera timber tracks.

Here’s what the worlds first multi protocol lane changer (with smarts, RF and BT) will look like. Just like the Nitrous car decoder, the Nitrous Lane Brain will run on Carrera 6 car or Scorpius 24 car protocols.
Carrera LCs require 1 or 2 photo sensors to capture the cars ID via its   IR LED placed in the chassis.

Scorpius LCs require 1 or 2 IR LEDS that are detected by photo sensors in the car.
Either one or two solenoid drivers are required to drive either a single or double lane changer.
The Scorpius MPD has all the required hardware to drive a Carrera double lane changer with anti collision and wireless track telemetry all in one tiny 22.00x13.30x2.55mm board.
The decoder can accept Carrera track packets (data via rails from CU) and wireless data simultaneously.
This system can now run 1-6 cars using Carrera CU or 24 cars using the Scorpius protocol.
To achieve 24 cars the cars must use Nitrous decoders for cars, lane changers and lap counter. The Scorpius controller, dongle and RMS must be used. This is because the Carrera system as good as it is cannot support more than 6 cars ever.

This system would be perfect for anyone building a Carrera timber track and still use Carrera proprietary gear when required.
Or Carrera clubs wanting to hold endurance events etc.

So there you have it. The worlds first lot of hardware capable of allowing a lane changer to run multiple brands including Scalextric.

The Nitrous Lane Brain can send car ID back to the computer for sector timing, pit detection, pit bay detection and lap timing.

Gate opening times can be adjusted. Anti collision is optional. The Lane Brain ID can be configured 1-31. All this will be done wirelessly.

Pictures below showing a Carrera XLC (double lane changer) with anti collision and both LEDS and photo sensors installed.

Another world first by Team Scorpius.  Beer
