Rally reports - 10th February - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

Slot Rally 2023 sees an update to Standard Class, gone are the 16 manufacturers classes so we now have 5 classes the same as ProStock and Open.  This will be interesting in the coming months to mix SCX, Ninco, Fly, Scalextric, Scaleauto and others.

Seven club members tonight, it was nearly eight but Ed had to return home with 1:1 car problems.

With Little Druidale recently resurfaced, gone are the umpteen cleaning laps required before the event starts.

The 3D printed stone walls look good on Druidale with a couple of volunteers to finish painting them.  Chris is working on gorse hedging, Mike H has plans for trees and surrounding scenery is in the process of being made.

Three Standard classes had competition for class win
Brian & Geoff in Standard Classic, the Abarth 131 was quicker on both Rally stages, Geoff’s XK120 suffering badly with rear axle tramp.
Geoff & Mike H in Standard 2WD, this was the closest class of all tonight, Mike’s ‘Steady Eddy’ Celica doing a great job of going going…going and was only one second behind the big Aston Martin overall but was two seconds quicker on Druidale.
Kev & Chris were competing in Standard 4WD, Kev’s Scooby a few seconds quicker on both stages than Chris’s Citroen C4.

ProStock was most popular again with competition in three classes
Kev & Mike H in ProStock Classic, Mike’s Alpine A310 going much better on TT Grandstand than Druidale, Kev’s Merc SLC was his second best car tonight.
Brian & Mike H in ProStock 80’s, the 6R4 was a few seconds quicker on both stages but the RS200 was Mike’s quickest car overall
ProStock 2WD is always busy, eight cars tonight, NSR, Scaleauto and SlotIt are great performers, Kev’s Nissan R32 was the car to follow tonight with Mike B, Geoff & Chris the chasing group headed by Mike’s Porsche GT3.  This was Mike’s Kev’s & Geoff’s quickest overall run tonight.  Mike B had three cars in this class and Geoff had two.  Brian opting to drive the Peugeot 208 in this class instead of the Renault Megane.

Two Open classes had competition tonight
Open Small Classic is one of Andy’s favourite classes, tonight chose to drive a Mercedes 300SLR, Chris driving an Alpine A110S and looking at the stage times looks like he struggled on Druidale, the Merc finishing comfortably ahead.
Open 2WD was the most popular Open class and is usually where the quickest overall times of the evening are seen.  Andy’s Ferrari F40 may seem a strange choice for a Rally car but one has definitely been rallied and comfortably won it’s class tonight.  Brian’s Peugeot 206 has been nearer the sharp end of the overall comparison chart on a regular basis but had to make do with runner up in class.  Looking at the results chart it looks as though Chris’s Revo Toyota had a little trouble on TT Grandstand but went well on Druidale.

Other cars seen as solo class entries tonight
Kev’s Fly BMW M1 gets round more like a ProStock, a superb Standard class car with new tyres on the back and ballast inside.
Mike B’s 4WD Scooby in ProStock 4WD was his second best car tonight and seemed to go much better on Druidale than on TT Grandstand.
Andy’s 80’s Porsche 959 and 4WD Mitsubishi were the two quickest cars in the overall comparison chart, the Mitsubishi being the quicker of the two.

Class winners - Brian, Kev, Geoff, Mike B & Andy

Rally reports - 16th March - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

A good turnout tonight, seven drivers and 28 cars.

We tried an experiment, after everyone ran their first two cars, the first two drivers swapped over to the other stage.  What should have happened was after everyone had run another two cars the first two drivers of this second round would swap stages.  This didn’t happen, it needs organising better next time so everyone sees all the cars in action and makes it easier for the report writer.
…I know that’s totally confusing to read but it was good to see most of the cars in action rather than just the ones in our group.

Standard - five Standard class cars were raced, the only contested class was Standard 2WD with MikeH getting the best time with his Toyota Celica GT4 (or is that GT2) finished ahead of Ed’s Cossie.
- Geoff’s Jag XK120, Ed’s Lancia 037 and Kev’s Peugeot 307 were the other standard cars.

Class wins: Geoff, Ed, Mike H & Kev

ProStock - three Classics, ten 2WD and three 4WD.

- Kev, Mike H and Ed in ProStock Classic.  Ed’s Porsche was his best car overall, Kev’s TR7 had a development chassis (which didn’t work) and Mike’s Alpine A310 was his second best car overall.
- ProStock 2WD - we were only saying last Slot Rally that Mike B’s NSR Porsche was a class winner, tonight he finished comfortably clear with Brian & Geoff in hot pursuit with NSR, Scaleauto and modified Scaley cars.  Mike B’s Ferrari F430 made a smashing start to his evening…smashing into the walls on a few occasions which didn’t do overall stage times any favours.  Mike H & Ed were the other two drivers with cars in this class.
Geoff’s Peugeot 208 was one of three cars finishing less than a second apart overall in 2WD.
- ProStock 4WD isn’t always the most popular class but three drivers were up for it tonight with Kev’s Citroen Xsara making an appearance and finishing comfortably clear ahead of Mike B & Geoff’s MSC Scooby’s.
- ProStock 80’s, Mike H’s Ford RS200 goes really nicely and was his best car tonight.

Class wins: Kev, Mike H & Mike B

Open - all five classes were represented tonight, 2WD the only class contested
- 2WD, Andy’s Ferrari F40 finishing well clear of Brian’s Peugeot with both cars being their drivers best cars overall tonight.
- Open Small Classic saw the return of Kev’s Alpine A110S after a rebuild and was his second best car overall tonight.  Andy’s Mustang went well again in Open Classic and was his second best car overall.
- Andy’s 80’s Porsche 959 and 4WD Mitsubishi again flying round both Rally stages.

Class wins: Kev & Andy

Slot Rally last night.

Birthday cake for all as it's Kev's 21st+VAT (value added time) on Monday.

Little Druidale has a new layout, all 6 sections in use with two long runs to stretch the cars legs.

It was good to see Gav again, obviously struggling in pain but driving a couple of Ferraris must help a little.  The Metro 6R4 having a bad time on Druidale after a wheel fell off in practice.  The Ferrari 308 was one of his best runners.

Chris managing to get away from work to enjoy a night on the Rally stages with a couple of favourite Ninco's in his pit box and a quick Hinda Civic keeping ahead of the Toyota Supra.

Mike H returned with some more work on the 'Stoney Bridge' for Little Druidale and has taken the Manx stone cottage to paint. The Alpine A310 goes well and the Toyota GT4 (or is that a GT2) is a smooth operator.

Andy's Ferrari F40 having ground clearance issues driving downhill on Druidale stayed in the garage tonight...but the lady crew in the Alfa had a good runout tonight to win Open 2WD.

Kev's TR7 has a new chassis (version 4) and went better...but not as well as the BMW M1 which was actually the quickest car overall (I double checked the times because it was a big surprise).

Geoff is another who likes to drive a Jag XK120, with a decent set of alloys it goes well.  His Peugeot 208 was top of the Pro 2WD class that was again the most popular class tonight.

Brian likes his Pro 2WD class cars with threee (< count them) entries, the best of which was the Renault Megane, it certainly doesn't look as quick as his other two cars in this class but there it is!

Rally reports - 25th May - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

What a great turnout tonight, 7 club members, Alan who’s visiting the island for 6 weeks, Nigel who has been to the club a few times recently…and Rog was back after a long absence (he loves his Rally action).

A great variety of classes were represented, 14 Standards, 14 ProStocks and 12 Open Class cars meant lots of competition for places.

Standard 80’s, once a popular class for Ninco Porsche 911’s, most of us have one somewhere and tonight Chris brought his out of retirement.

Rog & Mike H had two cars each in Standard 2WD, we should expect Rogers standard cars to be the ones to catch, Mike’s Toyota GT4/2 was closest and his best standard car tonight.

Standard 4WD, a pair of Citroen C4’s…’this is my favourite car’ said Rog and showed why it was his favourite as he kept it ahead of Chris’s.

ProStock Classic, Mike H’s best car tonight couldn’t catch Kev’s TR7

ProStock 80’s, Nigel borrowed four cars tonight, his Metro 6R4 didn’t really stand a chance catching Kev’s Opel Manta which was the quickest car round TT Grandstand tonight.

ProStock 2WD, the most popular class for many months now, nine cars and the top four covered by only 2.4 seconds as Rog, Brian, Chris & Geoff were unbelievably close.

Open Small Classic, Alan drove Andy’s proxy Jag XK120, it’s a fabulous car to drive round our Rally stages but couldn’t catch Andy’s Mercedes 300SLR.

Open Classic, Alan driving another of Andy’s cars, the DeTomaso Pantera is a very rapid car but not on the pace of Andy’s Mustang but was Alan’s best run tonight.

Open 80’s, Ed joined Alan & Andy but really struggled with this car, not really able to keep it moving constantly.  It’s become clear we need to find a solution for Ed’s limited hand mobility, a thumb controller looks like the answer as he tried flipping his controller up and used his thumb and seemed to have more control straight away.  Andy’s Porsche 959 is far too good on our Rally stages for Alan to keep up with his Porsche 911.

Open 2WD was well represented, Geoff decided at the last minute to use his Supra when he heard Chris was using his Supra, Brian’s Peugeot 206 separated them at the end.  Alan drove the all-girl crew in the Alfa 147 GTA to within a few seconds of Chris’s Supra.

Other cars that were sole class entries were Kev’s proxy Jag XK120 with a motor upgrade in ProStock Small Classic…it’s just as easy to drive but ‘get’s there’ much quicker, in fact set the fastest time of all round Little Druidale.  This was Kev’s quickest car overall.
Andy’s 4WD Mitsubishi was the quickest overall car tonight and one of four cars to finish in 130 seconds.

Class wins: Brian, Kev, Rog, Andy & Geoff

Rally reports - 29th June - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

Holiday, injuries and medical treatments put paid to a good turnout tonight.
…nevertheless there were still four of us, we decided to drive five cars each so 20 cars on the Rally stages.

Standard class had a big boost tonight, Mike B ‘brought the wrong box’ which turned out to be a blessing in disguise, the Suzuki Swift is a lovely smooth runner.  It was also nice to see a Seat (Abarth) 131 in Standard Classic along with his regular Ninco Ford Focus (I must get mine prepped for action).

Ninco Porsche 911’s were popular, three were seen, Brian’s has SlotIt running gear and goes nicely.  The other car he’s been working on is a DeTomaso Pantera, unsure of it’s performance after working on it turned out to be his second best car tonight, sitting between his Peugeot 206 and Renault Megane.

Chris didn’t think his Alpine A110S was going to be easy to drive but ended up his best car tonight.  That Honda Civic has been a great conversion, always a competitive performer and well worth the effort to upgrade it.  Now that Ford Fiesta ‘I stopped using it because it has problems, but I can’t remember what’...it was the guide (just like Brian’s Hyundai i20)

Kev brought the Volvo and Scooby out of retirement, both being overshadowed by the Opel Manta.  The proxy Jag XK120 shone again as did the Fly BMW M1 which ‘flies’ round albeit a little noisy.

Eight Standard, eight ProStocks and four Open class cars.
ProStock 2WD was most popular as usual, closely followed by Standard 80’s and Open 2WD.

Rally reports - 3rd August - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

It was great to see Dave down earlier in the evening, a natter, catchup and drive round Little Druidale.

Mike B turned up to make eight competitors, four per Rally stage, the groups were chosen and Brian had the option to have first choice of track, that being TT Grandstand.

Mike brought the right box of cars this time, tried & tested cars, could the NSR Porsche do well tonight?...it was close, as Geoff’s Peugeot 208 and Chris’s Honda Civic finished within two seconds of the Porsche with the 911 ending up ProStock 2WD winner.  Not content with one class win, his Punto won Standard 2WD and his Scooby won ProStock 4WD as best of four Scoobies in class.

Chris had four Scoobies on the bench, by the time testing was over he was left with two but they were both shown the way round by the Honda Civic.  We had a little chat about that between us, the cost of putting a car like that together and all agreed the money is well spent as it’s a brilliant car on and off the Rally stage. Two cars on the podium in ProStock 4WD, the Avant Scooby being the best of the two.  Another podium for the Ninco Porsche 934 in Standard 80’s.

Ed’s best car by some margin was the Mercedes 190E, that and the Scooby seem to flow well, unlike the stop-start of the Lancia and Cossie.  It became obvious why Ed had problems with these cars as his controller setting was way off, turning the power up especially on the Cossie saw it flying round on Little Druidale.  Trying these new settings afterwards shows the Lancia and Cossie should end up closer to the quicker cars next time.

Brian was kept busy as he got eight cars ready, four for himself and four for Nigel.  Nigel had three cars in ProStock 2WD, the best of which turned out to be a Peugeot 208, finishing a few seconds behind Mike B’s Ferrari 430.  He did manage to get on the podium with his Metro 6R4 in ProStock 80’s…despite dropping it on the floor…it’s OK Brian, nothing to see here!

Brian has been seen testing his Abarth 131 in recent weeks and it’s always a pleasure to see it in action, a great looking car and runs nice and smoothly.  It’s safe to say he’s driving this and other cars much better this year. He had a couple of class runner-up spots, the Pantera in ProStock 80’s and Peugeot 206 in Open 2WD.

Kev usually turns up with far too many cars to choose from and recently stuck with some favourites.  The Jag XK120 seen doing well in the Rally Slotting Car Proxy is probably his favourite car (this year) and performs great.  His Scooby was recently resurrected after a long spell on the shelf, experimenting with BRM tyres and slower motor is scarily slightly slower than before.  The Fly BMW M1 is still setting the pace as far as Standard Class cars go.

No Standard class cars for Geoff tonight, the XK120 getting a rest.  The Peugeot 208 was his best result, runner-up in ProStock 2WD, fractions of a second behind Mike’s Porsche. The rare tiger Supra looking great but couldn’t keep up with Brian’s Peugeot 206. The 4WD Scooby one of four in the tightest bunch of cars in one class.

Andy’s Open class cars are all well matched, the best of which tonight was the Mitsubishi Evo in Open 4WD but matched on pace by the Mustang in Open Classic.  The Merc 300 SLR was the quickest Small Classic car and regularly sees circuit racing action also.  We do see glimpses of other cars, an Abarth 131 was seen in practice as was a Rover SD1.

Rally reports - 8th September - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

Seven of us turned up on another warm evening.  We chatted about the Touring Car Proxy being run on Saturday - everyone is welcome to come down and help, doors open at 10am

Standard Class

Eight Standard cars, the most popular class being 2WD with four cars.  Geoff’s been working on a Scaley Ferrari F430 this last couple of weeks and tonight was the first time used in competition.  As he was driving in one group, Mike B was driving his Fiat Punto in the other group, also in 2WD.  When the times were added there was only 0.34 seconds between them…with the Ferrari winning its maiden event.

Standard Classic had two cars, in practice there was a pair of Abarth 131’s, Brian’s and Kev’s, in the end Kev wasn’t fully happy with his so used a Pantera which finished comfortably ahead of Brain’s Abarth 131.

Mike H and Chris also drove Standard cars, Mike with a Toyota Celica and Porsche, Chris with a Citroen C4 with the other Standard car, Kev’s BMW M1 finishing amongst the Open class cars times.

ProStock Class

Twelve cars tonight, the most popular of these classes as always, was 2WD, Geoff’s Scaleauto Peugeot, Chris’s Scaley Honda and Mike B’s NSR 997…with less than 2 seconds covering all three cars.
Brian’s Megane also in this class looked slow tonight, we had a chat about it and came to the conclusion it needs a quicker motor now he’s got used to it’s foibles.

ProStock Classic had two cars, Brian’s Pantera and Mike H’s Alpine A310.  Both cars were consistent over both runs but the Pantera was quicker.

The other ProStock cars were Kev’s Ninco Jag XK120 in Small Classic, Chris’s Slotwings BMW M3 and Mike B’s MSC Scooby.

Open Class

All five classes were represented tonight, 2WD was most popular, Kev’s MSC Scooby never going to get caught by Brian’s SCX Peugeot 206 or Chris’s Revoslot Supra that was making rather expensive sounding banging noises on the other side of the room.

Small Classic isn’t a slow class, especially when Andy’s Mercedes 300SLR turns up, Mike H’s MiniSprint tried to keep up but didn’t get on particularly well on Little Druidale

Andy’s other three cars, Mustang in Classic, Porsche 959 in 80’s and Mitsubishi Evo in 4WD all performed as well as usual.

COMPARISON CHART

----------------------------------------------------------------

Next week is Grand Prix and F1

Reminder - The AGM is 7 weeks away (end of October) if you have any proposals, take note of them because I’ll be asking for them to be included in the agenda in a week or so’s time.
The race calendar for 2024 will be discussed in the weeks after the AGM as we have plenty of time to tweak it if necessary.

Rally reports - 12th October - TT Grandstand & Little Druidale -

Seven of us turned up tonight, it was good to see Nigel back again…and Brian had a bag of freshly cooked muffins which went down very well. Thank you Brian.

Standard Class

2WD - 4 cars in class, a mix of SCX, Fly and Ninco.  Ed with two cars, a Cossie and a Scoobie, Mike’s regular Punto and Kev’s large Aston Martin which set the pace in this class.

One 4WD car, Kev’s Peugeot 206

ProStock Class

2WD - Most of the cars were ProStockers, the most popular of those being 2WD as expected, with nine cars. Geoff with three cars in class, the best of which was his Scaleauto Peugeot 208 which finished 2nd in class.  Mike B with two cars in class, his best being the NSR Porsche 997 performing well as usual, finishing just behind Geoff’s Polo but ahead of Brian’s NSR Porsche 997.  Nigel had two cars in class, his best performing car was a Renault Megane but a loose screw part way through his run on Little Druidale meant a lengthy pitstop which ruined the cars overall time.
Kev had one car in class, an NSR Aston Martin Vantage which was his second best car overall tonight but finished top of this 2WD class.

80’s had two cars, Ed’s Lancia 037 which won the class and Nigel’s Metro 6R4.

Two other car in ProStock, Brian’s DeTomaso Pantera in Classic and Mike B’s Scooby in 4WD.

Open Class

80’s - three cars tonight, Andy’s Porsche 959 and a pair of Metro 6R4’s, one Brian’s the other Ed’s, neither of the Metros could catch Andy’s Porsche.

2WD - three cars, Kev with yet another Aston Martin, the DBR9 was his quickest car tonight and had to rerun due to the lap timer missing 4 laps (I watched the video, it was 15 laps).  Brian’s Peugeot 206 was his quickest car tonight finishing 2nd in class.
Geoff's Tiger Supra was the third car in class.

Small Classic - two cars, Andy’s Mercedes 300 SLR was his second fastest car tonight finishing ahead of Nigel’s Healey.

The other two cars in Open were Andy’s Mustang in Classic class which was his quickest car tonight and his Mitsubishi Evo in 4WD class.

Brian is 'asking for a friend' if we can have a 'benefits in kind' column in the results chart to take a few seconds off cars run times if something like a bag of Muffins for example were to be brought down for the lads.
