And finally, will it load properly or not ........

Event 4 Cars 7-11

Well I got it in double now...........

Perhaps the video idea is abit futuristic for me  Rofl

However they are all loaded now, a joint effort between Kevan and me.

So hopefully Andy will be running his Stages trouble free, and I can take the back seat on this one

I'll tell you something, watching all those standard cars has me now looking at my Ninco and SCX Rally cars and wondering why on earth I don't use them, some of the cars in this proxy are wonderful.

I have been very impressed with a Ninco C4 and Focus WRC, I have. Both with suspension, long can and 4WD. If I'd been entering more cars, then at least one of the Ninco's would have been in it. I even have an SCX Impreza, fitted with a Ninco Impreza chassis. Goes much better than it did with the SCX 4WD chassis. I think it's the suspension that has helped.

Ninco C4 and Focus WRC always go well in our standard class 4WD

The cars have reached sunny Brighton and will be running Round 2 of the proxy on two stages. The first is a Ninco rally layout - this will be completed today. The second is a short sprint on the Brighton Pavilion ice rink - taking place on Sunday morning. Combined timed will give us the Round 2 results.

The Suzuki Swift course car ran the Ninco layout last night, followed by a brief shakedown for all the cars, to ensure they could all make it round...

As you can see, there's a combination of standard Ninco (tarmac) and Ninco off-road track pieces. The course starts at the rally loop in the middle...

And then moves swiftly to the off-road section, made up of sweeping standard radius curves connected by mixture of straights. The track surface is bumpy, but designed to be compatible with all slot cars. Most cars judder over the track - so a sprung guide, weight in the front, decent body float and suspension on the axles all contribute to a smoother ride and minimise the chances of a random deslot. I've also included a bridge using the ramps from a Ninco 'Dune' set connected by a couple of straights - which is another challenge...

The tarmac section is respite from the bumpy off-road track and includes a second rally loop (with a pub). The tarmac starts and finishes with an inner radius hairpin to give a test of the cars' nimbleness...

Then it's back through the off-road section, over the bridge and ending at the return loop where cars will be timed using the LapTracker - AutoTimer app running on an ancient iphone and external battery pack.

I'll be timing the cars for five laps on both this Ninco stage and the ice rink - so Round 2 results are very much skewed to today's times and dependent on each car's ability to get round the off-road track section.

I'll run through the Event lists in order - then reverse them on Sunday, starting with the car that runs last today.

Event One - Monte Carlo

The first group of cars started with one of three Jaguar XK120s...

ManxKev's Jag looks great and was super-smooth on the stage, setting a competitive benchmark time of 78.33 seconds and no deslots.

Groundhogs' Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo is one of the stand-out cars in terms of looks. On the track, it managed the off-road surface quite well, but really struggled with the off-ramps from the bridge. A time of 109.70 seconds included four deslots on those ramps.

The Novissime Iterum Austin Landcrab is truly wonderful - and it ate up the off-road section, wobbling nicely over the rough stuff. Its Achilles' heel were the sharp turns on the tarmac... two tippy deslots left the Austin with a time of 91.32 seconds.

RoadRunners' Jag certainly has beautiful looking wheels... but the car was very sensitive to the rough off-road surface. A gentle pace and one deslot gave a time of 91.60 seconds - a mere 0.28 of a second behind the Landcrab.

The Lifeboats Racing Cortina was super-smooth and nicely-sprung - almost Citroën-esque. A time of 80.25 seconds (with one deslot on the bridge) was second best so far.

Oh my... ManxAndy's brass-chassied XK120 was an absolute pleasure to drive on this course. It was so predictable on both surfaces and nice and punchy on the throttle. The time of 69.36 seconds (no deslots) beat the other Manx Jag by nearly nine seconds.

Last to go in the Monte Carlo event was the Green Star Austin Healey 3000. This was great fun to drive and well-planted - a very different car to the brass Jag, but almost as quick. Over the 5 laps, the Healey managed 71.75 seconds (no deslots) to grab second place on the stage...

1. ManxAndy - Jaguar XK120 - 69.36 seconds (0 deslots)
2. Green Star - Austin Healey - 71.75 seconds (0 deslots)
3. ManxKev - Jaguar XK120 - 78.33 seconds (0 deslots)
4. Lifeboats Racing - Ford Cortina - 80.25 seconds (1 deslot)
5. Novissime Iterum - Austin Landcrab - 91.32 seconds (2 deslots)
6. RoadRunners - Jaguar XK120 - 91.60 seconds (1 deslot)
7. Groundhogs - Alfa Romeo Gran Turismo - 109.70 seconds (4 deslots)

Group B cars will follow after lunch...
