Slotting Car Proxy Club

(14th-May-25, 03:36 PM)AdeC Wrote:  Just thinking aloud here... What's the reasoning behind limiting Event 1 to being a Revoslot only class and not allowing the likes of the Slot It 510? Surely they play reasonably well together? Even a well modified Scalextric Escort, Fly Alfa Giulia GTA/GTV or Spirit BMW 2002 could potentially keep pace.

It is something I have considered beforehand and I was interested to see what Slot it were proposing to introduce in the period prior to this proxy taking place. Obviously from the introduction of the BMW M30, they are not following the same path as Revoslot and are introducing a much wider range of Touring cars in the future. I did ask them if a stable mate for the Datsun was on the drawing board, but they are keeping their cards close to the chest, and was told “well maybe in the future” type response.
So that leaves us with the one Datsun car from Slot it and the not so cheap alternatives of Fly or Scalex equivalents as scratchbuild with added parts. From my experience the 60’s period cars of this type are not likely to draw many entries, but no doubt the Slot it Datsun would.
So I might expect there to be mostly Revoslot entries anyway with a similar number of Slot it Datsun only ones as entrants seem to prefer the latest released type cars, rather then the more challenging builds.

One thing I do know is that at least 5 of our current proxy “club members” have entered the US based Revoslot Gp2 proxy last year. They of course may not want to participate in this UK re-run based on their experience last time, but we are creatures of habit  Rofl

The other point which impressed me is that there was a fairly unpredictable set of results in terms of cars entered, and the average variation was very small. Similar to our experience with the current Revo GT proxy cars. So that in itself gives a more unpredictable outcome, which is surely more entertaining in general.

If I thought I could fill the Event with a more balanced field of cars otherwise, I probably would prefer it that way, but I fear I would perhaps “muddy the water” by having too much choice in the event which is unlikely to attract a lot of entries and might put off those which prefer a simple Class structure to race against.

In reality I have generated 3 events which offer different build structures in each, which perhaps is easier to follow than using my earlier proxy modelling methods.

But at this point I am open to the views of others, and could even prepare a census around the specific issue regarding Event 1 structure perhaps ??

Ah, I had overlooked that there was a different specific build class per event, meaning that the small saloons is essentially a standard class. So yes, I understand why Revo is the logical choice here.

To be honest I prefer the simplification of just three classes you are proposing (even if I'd rather they were all procar/controlled variations Bigsmile ). I personally think the current Events/Classes combos have got a little out of hand; with essentially 9 different class/podium combos in the same proxy (for the current GT proxy and the same for the Targa Proxy to follow). For me it just makes it hard to concentrate on who you're even supposed to be racing against.  That said, it's just my two cents.  I fully understand why you have developed the event/class structure that there is and I in no way want to detract from the amazing work you do to create these proxy's, and they way in which you have made it inclusive for all different builder preferences.  Wrench

Whenever I do I proxy, I always think I wish I had done something different to make it better afterwards,   So I am a restless sole, but there is also a desire to make them different so we might end up with different winners. Quite difficult when you have some great slot car builders who seem to rise to the top no matter what challenge you throw at them  Bigsmile
But I hope for them also “the challenge” makes it all the more satisfying.

Some have the knack of making a competitive car no matter what and speaking as one lucky enough to have done well a couple of times, for me I enter your proxies for the enjoyment of driving all the other cars that have been entered, on our tracks...the winning isn't the ultimate aim for me.  I build cars that I hope others will enjoy driving as much as I do when they return home again.

I'm finding I'm spending more time on cars for your proxies Graham than for normal club racing and I think it's fair to say the same for Andy & Ed, there isn't a week goes by without seeing a proxy car racing against the 'normal' cars.

Life is like a box of Slot cars... Cool Drinkingcheers
