Feb 4th 2022 - BTCC Round 1
#1

Thanks to Andy for the write up  Thumbup

Friday 4th February saw round one of the Mussel Bay BTCC get underway. This week we welcomed back Elliot and Mark. The usual practice got under way, Mark and Elliot soon got dialled back into the track and Jake was producing vary consistent lap times, with all driver having a good practice session racing goy underway with the heat races. the car of choice for most drivers seemed to be the Honda Civic but the BMW 1 Series was also cropping up a fair bit.
Various technical/mechanical faults plagued some drivers in the heats; half way through one of Kens races his BMW 1 Series starts to slow down when the pinion gear came unglued from his motor and eventually ground to a halt forcing him to swap out his car for his back up MG 6.
Kevin was also having issues during his heat race with when a small off caused some minor damage and having to be swapped out for a BMW 1 Series for the remainder of the race, James was called upon to try and sort out Kevin’s car. Other people  having issues in the heats were Darren and Alan, Darren with his tire coming unglued from the rim and Alan appearing to have some stability issues and struggling to keep his Civic on the track.  All this action meant that some of the drivers had a bit of work to do during the break to get their cars ready for the finals.

The first final C lined up like this Kevin in Green, Darren in Blue, Andy in Red and Elliot in Yellow. At this point Kevin was struggling for a competitive car due to various issues in the heats so he had to break out an old classic Audi A4. Whilst it was good to see something different on the track Kevin soon realised why most people race the more modern cars as the old Audi started to show its age with a wobbly front axel that caused stability issues. In the end Elliot came through in first place followed by Andy, Darren and Kevin bringing up the rear with the Audi. This promoted Elliot to the ‘B’ final.

Starting grid for the B final was Alan in Green, Paul in Blue, Heather in Yellow and the promoted Elliot in Red.  Racing got underway and was very close for the first few laps but after a while Elliot started to pull out a lead and that’s where he stayed for the rest of the race finally coming through to take the win, coming in second was Heather Third was Paul and Forth was Alan.

The last race of the night was the Grand Final with 4 of the evenings best racers putting it all on the line to decide on the best racer of the night. This is how they lined up on the grid: James in Green, Mark in Red, Ken in Yellow, and Elliot, doing things the hard way by winning both the ‘C’ and ‘B’, in Blue. With the beast racers of the night line up on the grid the Grand Final was going to be fast and furious and it did not disappoint. Ken’s Mg was doing well with keeping up with James in his Civic and Mark in the 1 series and racing was close but in the end James did just enough to keep Mark at Bay with Ken coming in third and it proved to be one final too many for Elliot as he came in forth.
