Carrera 2022 - the list
#1

Information from Carrera has been hard to get hold of since distribution was moved in-house and away from the extremely helpful Hobby Company... but a list of their 2022 Evolution, D132, D124 and Go!!! cars was made available to UK retailers today.

Recommended retail prices for Evolution cars have gone up to £49.99, D132 to £69.99 and D124 to £89.99.

There are several new moulds, the highlight is certainly the 1971 Mercedes 300 6.8 SEL AMG 'Red Pig'...

This is the livery from the car's racing debut at the Spa 24 hours - where it won its class and would have won overall... if it wasn't for the excessive number of fuel stops required. But runner-up spot was pretty impressive! The photo is of a replica, painstakingly built by AMG in 2006 from the original plans and remains extremely popular at historic events around Europe.

The #35 is available as Evolution and D132 versions. There's also a #31 car listed - although we'll have no idea of what this looks like until the catalogue is released. There are no images on the list.

An addition to the modern GT range is a new BMW M4 GT3 in the works #1 presentation livery...

And this Mahle-sponsored car from iRacing...

The car doesn't officially start its real-life competition career until the 2022 season.

Both these liveries will be produced in Evolution, D132 and D124.

Another new GT car is the KTM X-Bow GT2/GTX...

This True Racing #16 car raced in the 2021 Fanatec GT2 European Series, winning at Spa. Available in both Evolution and D132. There's also a second livery...

...which is the GTX Concept version - the #75 True Racing 'Auto Motor und Sport' car which raced at the 2021 Nürburgring 24 Hours in the Cup-X class. This one is also available in Evolution and D132.

There's what could be a racing truck, named a 'Carrera Race Truckster' in two apparently fictitious liveries (Google didn't show anything) in D132 only. My hunch this is a reworking of the various trucks, ambulances etc already produced. We'll have to wait for pictures to be sure.

The other two new moulds are aimed at youngsters and are scaled-up versions of Go!!! cars - a Super Mario Kart in two liveries (Mario and Yoshi), plus a Build 'n' Race car in two liveries. These are available in Evolution and D132 versions.

The full lists are below, together with some pictures from Google image searches - so they might not be 100% reliable.

A lot of people complain about their clunkiness and lack of speed , but Carrera have far and away the best selection of cars.

Nice one Andy!!!!

Carrera criticism is unjustified compared to the quality and finish compared to the other manufactures. The detail of the livery is amazing when you compare to some of the other companies. Their cars look like lego blocks on wheels. I think people find it hard to realise there are competition/race cars and there are home/hobby cars. Its frustrating to see the price rise though.

Excuse my Carrera ignorance but are these lists of new products for this year, or lists of their full range?

If the former, then that is impressive.

I love puttering with gears

It can't be the entire range. Carrera have a selection of "Stock Cars" that are not on this list. Most are not offered by any other manufacturer.

Many manufacturers never considered making a Superbird. Any slot car can be fun if you tune them a little to be smooth, reliable, and race equal/matching cars together.

A Superbird in stock form.

A Charger-500 and Ford Fairlane GT with custom scratch-built chassis.

A big thank you to Andy for keeping everyone updated! The Ford Torino Talladega looks like fun.  Thumbup

It is indeed a list of all their new 2022 cars that will be available in the UK. That's across 1:43 (including a new mould or maybe two), 1:24 and 1:32 scale. The Evolution and Digital132 models are essentially duplicated, with the digital cars getting a chip. In the past, some liveries were exclusively available in D132 format only. Now each livery comes as an analogue Evolution and Digital132 version. Both are now fitted with lights, where appropriate.

Carrera's big markets are continental Europe (especially Germany) and North America - that's where you'll find pretty much all the Carrera layouts. I'm not sure what sets will be available in the UK for 2022 - usually it's a small selection. In the past, it's always been cheaper to buy sets and accessories from Germany - although, in theory, everything in the EU catalogue is available here on special order. North America has a slightly different catalogue, with US-themed sets and sometimes an exclusive car or two.
