MSCC - 2022 Race results & reports etc.
#31

Race reports - 3rd November - GP & Pre-wing F1 plus Classic F1 & F1

Six racers tonight including a potential new club member, James, a friend of Ed and he seemed to really enjoy the evening.

GP & Pre-wing F1

Although this may seem a class covering a large period of time it’s only 30’s to 60’s

Special heats have been created so newcomers can race each other with three wins up for grabs in each class…this worked out really well for James with three heat wins.

Kev & Brian racing in the GP (modified) class had a super close final race as Heat #7 ended with the Merc W165 only 0.4 seconds clear of the Vanwall with Chris’s GP (open) Maserati finishing on the same lap and was his best lane score.

Mike’s Cooper T53 is getting close to 21 lappers and went better in Red and Yellow for some reason.

Classic F1 & F1

NSR ruined Standard F1 the day they released their F1…ruined for the rest that is as they are fabulous race cars. Four lined up in Standard F1 and every one was immediately one second per lap quicker than the earlier cars raced.
Kev’s was the car to catch tonight, a 29 lapper in Blue was his best lane score.  Chris & Brian finished less than a second apart in Heat #2 with the final heat won by Chris a couple of seconds clear of Mike.  The other even closer finish for Mike - Heat #4 only inches behind Chris.
Brian seemed a little off the pace tonight, a slipped crown gear the cause of concerning noises from his NSR, once fixed it was quick again. Heat #6 in Yellow was his best lane score tonight.

Ed vs James - the tables were turned as Ed racing a quick Brabham BT49 managed a couple of 23 lappers whilst James racing the same car as earlier managed nearly 6 laps less.  The closest of these races was Heat #5 as the Brabham finished one and a half laps ahead of the Lotus 77.

Race reports - 10th November - Small Sports/Saloons + Group 5

Small Sport/Saloons

Six racers tonight.  After much testing and practice Heat #1 saw Chris lining up with an Alpine A110 against Paul’s Ferrari 356P2.  The Ferrari managed to get away in the early stages as the Alpine explored the scenery a couple of times, once he’d got used to his new car Chris slowly caught then passed Paul as the race ended with the Alpine ¾ of a lap ahead.

Kev and Gav lined up for Heat #2, Kev’s Chaparral not seen for a few months cleared off into the distance as Gav pushed the Cobra off track on lap 1.  The Chappy never looked back with a comfortable heat win but the Cobra did calm right down in the last third of the race with super consistent laps.

Heat #3 saw Andy’s King Cobra in Red on the start line with Chris’s Alpine in Blue…Andy opting to use a club controller after testing and said lap times were the same…5 deslots for the Cobra to a single deslot of the Alpine meant Chris comfortably won the heat to much satisfaction from Chris.  Andy more than made up for this heat in the next two though.

Paul managed a best lane score and quickest lap times in Yellow in Heat #4 with Kev’s Chappy managing his best lap times in Blue, the Ferrari not able to keep the pace of the Chaparral.

Gav’s Cobra went from consistent in Yellow to super inconsistent in Red, numerous deslots meant Andy’s King Cobra had the easiest win of the night in Heat #5

Heat #6 was interesting, both drivers managing their best single lane score, a 30 lapper for Kev in Yellow and 28 for Chris in Blue, the Alpine less than two laps behind at the end but a 6.6 sec hot lap is the quickest Chris has been round in this class.

The final heat #7 was a full grid, Paul vs Andy vs Gav.  Andy’s King Cobra was flying round in Yellow and wasn’t going to be caught, a 30 lapper was the second one managed all night and both in this lane, also achieving his fastest laps in this race.  Paul's Ferrari had one deslot but was super consistent the rest of the race to finish well clear in second place but not on the pace of the orange King Cobra.  Gav’s AC Cobra again deslotting numerous times struggled as much as the earlier run in Red.

Group 5

Some of the best racing was seen in Group 5 as we had two in Standard, two in Modified and two in Open classes.
Heat #1 was a great race, Chris racing a Nissan Skyline and Paul racing a BMW 320i, never far apart all race as both finished without needing marshals, the BMW pulled clear slightly then the Nissan caught up again and this happened all race, the 320i finishing just over one second ahead of the Skyline.

Ed joined in Heat #2 to race Pauls borrowed Porsche 935 in the Red lane against Andy’s very quick M1 in Blue.  Andy opting to use his race controller this time round didn’t give Ed a chance who drove well in his first Gr.5 event.

Chris vs Gav was Heat #3, the Skyline this time up against a very quick Ford Capri.  One deslot for Chris to Gav’s three meant a fairly comfortable win for the Nissan.

By Heat #4 Kev was wondering why he hadn’t been called up…a check on the heat list showed he wasn’t going to race even though his name was in the list of racers.  It was discovered after the last race that the special heat chosen was for 5 drivers not 6…so Kev opted to race in the ‘empty’ lanes as ‘Numpty’ and had to compare his scores to the nearest driver at the end of the races.  Unfortunately this meant having to race in Red twice and Yellow once.  So Heat #4 was Kev vs Paul vs Ed…Paul had one deslot but drove the rest of the race very consistently as we expect of him whilst Ed had a clean race and easily his best race tonight to finish less than two laps behind Paul’s 320i…meanwhile ‘Numpty’ finished three laps ahead of Paul.

Heat #5 was Andy in Red vs Kev in Yellow and Gav in Blue.  The two BMW M1’s were on the same lap all race, sometimes inches apart, Andy’s Open class car just too quick to catch down the straights by Kev’s Standard class car as they crossed the line with Andy marginally ahead.  Gav got off to a bad start, a deslot in the first few seconds meant he was never going to catch the other two cars that were flying round in formation.

Kev back in Red, Ed in Yellow and Chris in Blue was the penultimate race.  Chris has the big Nissan going very well tonight, only one deslot all night meant having to race hard to keep up or pass.  Whilst Chris had another clean deslot-free race Kev managed to drive the BMW slowly away from the Skyline ultimately finishing one and a half laps clear at the end. Ed obviously trying hard to race had a few off’s in Yellow but did well tonight.

Heat #7, the final race of the night, Paul (Red), Gav (Yellow) & Andy (Blue) was the quickest race tonight, Andy getting the best lane score of the night, Paul managing his best lane score tonight and Gav going miles quicker in Yellow than his other lanes.  Andy’s M1 finished two laps clear of Paul’s Ferrari who in turn was a lap ahead of Gav’s Capri.

Heat wins in heat order for Paul, Andy, Chris & Kev

Race reports - 24th November - Saloons + Sports

Saloons

With three club members not able to get down tonight the turnout was still great as eight racers including the return of Brian Harrison, with borrowed cars showed he’s lost absolutely none of his racing skills.

Geoff, Chris, Mike & Brian had some superb races, what a great spectacle for the spectators…I mean marshals…
Brian racing a rather large Jaguar XJ12C that is super quiet and smooth went fantastic with new rear tyres.
Geoff & Chris racing Andy-built Opel Calibras were never far apart all night, keeping an eye on the overall results on the screen has become something to watch with the layout we’ve had for a while now. Chris with one heat win, Geoff with two.
Mike’s Mustang is another smooth racer and quick enough to win two heats tonight…if you deslot racing against Mike you often lose out at the end.
Paul raced a Modified Class Chevy Camaro, his cars are always there or thereabouts at the end, comfortably going best in Yellow tonight (Heat #1). The Camaro giving Brian’s Jag a good run for it’s money in two heats.
Ed’s Ninco Mercedes 190 has probably seen more track time than any other car in the last few weeks, with the quicker motor and long can pod, Blue lane in Heat #1 was his best run…he’s definitely improving!
Brian H…he’s always been a ‘drive it like you stole it’ kind of racer, appropriately raced a Scooby Rally car and gave it some welly, Heat #2 in Blue was his best run.
Kev raced a SlotIt Opel Calibra tonight, it usually goes well…and it did tonight…a 28 lapper in Blue (Heat #5) was his best run…but had to push hard tonight as those Opels of Geoff & Chris were very quick.  Heat #4 vs Geoff and Heat #5 vs Chris.

Could we see a repeat of the superb racing seen in Saloons…well as it turns out even better!
Although Kev’s ‘Copper Rocket’ was nowhere to be seen after lap #1 the racing behind was at least as good to watch as the Saloons.  Chris & Brian were only a couple of seconds apart at the end of Heat #1.
Heat #2 was good as Chris’s Dome Judd gave Geoff’s Mosler a good workout.
Heat #3 was super close, Brian L & Mike less than two seconds apart at the end of the race with Brian’s Mosler slightly ahead.
Geoff comfortable won Heat #4 but Brian H raced the Revo Toyota GT1 well to keep Paul’s NSR Porsche 908 within touching distance.  Paul has spent a few weeks tuning the Porsche, at times it’s been a handful but tonight was a very rapid race car…a deep guide would stop it riding the ‘wall of death’ under the bridge.
Heat #5 saw Kev’s Mosler nearly get a 31 lapper, Geoff finishing runner-up with his Mosler ahead of Paul’s 908.
Brian L’s Mosler wasn’t going to be caught in Heat #6, a good clean run to keep Paul & Brian H fighting for runner-up.
Chris had a blinding race in the final heat as the Dome Judd didn’t give Mike or Ed a chance.
Ed racing a SlotIt Audi R8C went very well in both Yellow and Blue, he gets drawn into racing the quicker cars but learning well.

Geoff mentioned the ‘50p Trophy’...it may see a return…

Race reports - 29th December - Grand Prix & Pre-wing plus Classic F1 & F1

It was nice to see six drivers turn up for the last event of the year.

Ed opted-out of the GP/PW races as he didn't have a suitable car but did PLENTY of practising for the later F1 racing.

Mike & Kev had car swaps mid race due to cantankerous cars.
Chris, Brian & Andy raced their ‘old faithfuls’.

No standard class GP cars tonight but half the F1 entries were NSR’s (Mike keeps reminding us he has one and one of these days we may see it).

The new race start time of 7.30 meant it was all over by 9.30 as thoughts turned to the 2023 race calendar.
The first event will be Club cars but this year we’re racing two types each time.
Club Revoslots is the first event to be followed by the Club BMW 320i’s (which have new motors).
