Rules for “American Trophy – Road Race

                                                   Basic Rules for Classes A, B, C, D
Maximum guide flag depth 6mm, thickness maximum 1.7mm and length 21.5mm. No wood guides. Recommended to use NSR standard low profile Rally sprung guides (as there will be some Rally type tracks to negotiate). Vac formed bodies are not allowed for any class. No traction magnets allowed. Guides must not protrude in front of the body. All 4 tyres must be in contact with the track surface. Only rubber or Polyurethane based tyre compounds are allowed (no silicone tyres)

To avoid running duplicate cars across Classes, if any car is listed for Class A, B, C or D, the same car model type is not entered into any of the other car eligible class lists. The RoadRace administrator decides which car models is most eligible for each class based on best available historic information and how it best fits into the structure of the event. Cannonball Run 2022 (Class A)
Historically the race initially was started for cars in 1933, but only popularised in the 70's over several years (probably due to a couple of feature films which were released at the time on this theme) . It was an unofficial event and regarded largely as illegal by the authorities. Since the 70's the event has been held on a similar unofficial basis in modern times and new speed records have been set.

For our Proxy event I have chosen the period from 1980 until today, and any production manufactured road car since 1980 is eligible.
Therefore there is no car list available. No special race only derived, prototype sports racing GT's or Rally cars will be accepted without evidence of a reasonable record of consumer availability.

I have chosen this Class to be our Standard Slot car type class, but this time allowing some degree of upgrading using replacement parts in order to give entrants a little more scope to be able to influence the cars behaviour. The only fixed components must be the original RTR car body, interior, chassis and motor.

Wavegreen Good Morning,

Yesterday I based Class A on the Modern Version of the Cannonball Run, which essentially was and still is a East to West Coast of America Road Race.

Pan American Class B is based a documented list of cars which run from in the Road Races, Carrera Panamericana, Millie Miglia, Targo Florio and Tour De France between the years 1950 and 1960. I also included some discretionary car models which I have included as they appear on some other lists like Le mans, and I am open to other suggestions if I think they are appropriate cars of the period which could have run in a road race.

The Carrera Panamericana was a border-to-border sedan and sports car racing event on open roads in Mexico similar to the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio in Italy. Running for five consecutive years from 1950 to 1954, it was widely held by contemporaries to be the most dangerous race of any type in the world

I have attached at the bottom a list of eligible cars from these lists, but I have omitted Prototype Racing based cars which often did run in these events (so no Ford GT40's)  and Cars which I have intended to be included in the NASCAR/Trans Am Class C.

Pan American Road Race  (Class B)

Theme- Road cars of the period which ran in any nationally recognised road race between 1950 and 1970. Special racing prototypes or Cars which also ran in the Trans Am/NASCAR racing post 1960 will be excluded.

Class for RTR, modified or scratch built models.

Class B Rules (All parts must be commercially available)

B1) Motors

Motor with a manufacturer’s rating not exceeding 18,000rpm at 12 volts. Motors in RTR models can be changed and orientation altered with the appropriate motor pod/chassis. Motors can be small can, Short Can, Long Can, Flat Can or Slim Can, or RX construction. Motors must not be modified from manufacturers specification. Motors with excessive magnet traction are not allowed (eg Avant 20103, MB Dodo and BRM Super Evo)

B2) Gears, axles, wheels, bushes

free choice

B3 Tyres

Any Rubber compound can be used.

Front and rear wheel and tyres: minimum width 5mm, maximum width 8mm

B4) Slot Guide

Maximum guide blade depth 6mm and maximum 1.7 mm thickness and 21.5mm length.

Any car may have an easy fit guide replaced with a conventional wired guide with the necessary minimum modifications to the chassis. The guide must not protrude in front of the body and should not be visible when viewed from above.

Motor wires and braids are free choice.

B5) Ballast

Ballast weight may be added to any car as desired, provided that it is placed within the confines of the body and chassis and is firmly glued in place.

B6) Bodies & Chassis

All body shells must be of hard plastic, glass fibre, resin or 3D printed materials,

Clear view windscreens and windows must be provided. Vacuum formed windows and headlight covers are permitted.

Rear view mirrors may be omitted but all other details parts must remain as fitted, wheel inserts must be fitted.

Vaccuum formed or lexan interiors are permitted but must be realistic and be a 3d representation of driver and interior.

The chassis can be as that which was supplied as a RTR model, alternatively the use of 3d printed, universal chassis or brass constructed is permitted.

B7) Ground clearance and dimentional requirements

Minimum motor to track clearance 2mm. All four tyres must touch the track surface when placed on the track and all four wheels must rotate.
Maximum overall outside tyre wall width 58mm

Tomorrow I will post the rules and car lists for Class C  Trans Am/NASCARS 1960-1972

...Stude' Champion...come to papa  Thumbup Thumbup

Just looking through wiki for the Carrera Panamericana 50-54 there's some not on your list:

Oldsmobile 88
Chevrolet Bel Air
Ford Crestline
Dodge Royal

...and no big US Fords!!!  It's not much help when they're only listed as 'Ford' when they're obviously not British Fords.

A short vid from the 1951 Carrera Panamericana

Great Video, first time I seen one of this Road Race, and alot of damaged cars, hopefully  not like our slot car Road Race  Bigsmile

Yes I  have listed the Oldsmobiile 88, but the others are missing, so i will happily add them onto my list  Sun

Additionally after abit of research, I have added the Ford Thunderbird model year 1955-1960, but if the Thunderbird is of a later model it will be placed in the Class C.

As a matter of interest to anyone , there is a resin caster in Spain specialising in Carrera Panamericana slot car resin kits which come with the fantastic authentic decals of the cars. I have his contact details if anyone is interested.

Also Ninco made a number of their Classic 50's models with the livery of the Panamaricana race. I will post some photos tomorrow of my collection.
