New-ish to the forum
#1

Hi folks

I’ve been a member for about 10 months now so thought I’d better get round to introducing myself!

I’ve got back into the hobby after a few years away. Carved out a bit of loft space to set up a track in and dug out my old cars (mainly mid-’90s to early 2000s).

I’ve been extremely impressed with the new (to me) Scalextric ARC system. I’m just on the AIR version at the mo.

I’ve found SlotRacer to be invaluable while I’ve been getting back into things, as the slot car world has moved on a bit in my absence (ARC for example).

The Library, the Guide and this forum have all been a goldmine of information, from planning tracks to setting up and tweaking cars.

My go-to manufacturer has been SCX. I had a few of the old Matchbox era 4x4 rally cars from back in the day, and I have bought a few of the more current range over the last few months. I have found that they need very little in the way of setting up to run well without magnets on my home track - and they look the part. They are great fun with lots of tail-out action! Particular faves are the Lancia Delta S4, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, and MkII Escort.

I’m just making a foray into classic Trans Am cars (always been a fan of the real thing). What do folks make of the Pioneer Mustangs? Are they pretty easy to run without magnets or will they need a bit of work?

Thanks

A belated welcome to SlotRacer Rich Wavegreen

It's never too late to introduce yourself...

I like the Pioneer Trans-Ams - Mustangs and the Camaro. The motors are a bit more torquey than the Scalextric ones, but probably need less fettling to get them going nicely. We run both brands of Trans-Am cars together at our club - and run them digital (the Pioneer cars are Digital Plug Ready), non-mag, with a bit of weight and Paul Gauge urethane rear tyres. Scalextric second gen Camaros usually win, but a Pioneer Camaro did end up in Victory Lane a couple of times.

Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice on the Pioneer cars, Andy. I will certainly be tracking one down. Keeping my eyes peeled for a ’67 Shelby notchback  Yes
