Porsche 550 Spyder
#1

This car is very similar to the car James Dean owned at one time. I am not fond of silver, so I went hunting for something different on a website called https://www.racingsportscars.com/

I found this beautiful blue Spyder.

Tamiya light metallic blue seems to be close.

Test fitting the body to the chassis. This is a small body.  Is there room for an interior and driver with a flat-6?

Thank you very kindly, Jason.

It runs like a blue bullet with a Slot.It flat-6.

They sure are Mitch58. Yours looks nice in traditional colours.

We have a bunch of 550's in our club. All the others are silver. Mine is the only one in blue.

I did a 550 for the "The Last Open Road"  proxy a few years back...........typical boring silver  Bigsmile

Cheers
Chris Walker

It started life as a Ninco "Clamshell"........the front and rear valences were cut off the chassis and glued  to the top half, before painting. A new drivers head, and a few other bits/pieces made, and it runs on a scratchbuilt wire/brass "flexi-board" chassis.

This is a pic. of the car after it was returned,.....a few minor  chips/scrapes.

Chris. Beautiful looking Porsche!  Thumbup

It's interesting in that Ninco has laid back head lights, and bullet tail lights like the higher serial numbers (550-0016).

The blue body is modelled after serial numbers 550-12 and/or 550-13.

Everything you ever wanted to know about all the Porsche 550 Spyders by serial number, below.

The original blue 550 you based this on is 550-07. The difference with this car is that the rear didn't fully lift up like the later models - it had a engine door to access in the top of the rear. Great job on the car - the colour really suits it!

These are wonderful builds  Thumbup

...this is what I bought off an ex-club member 3-4 years ago... I wasn't expecting this mess so got a nasty shock when I opened it up at home!

It's still in this state but these builds have reminded me it's desperately in need of rescuing.

Life is like a box of Slot cars... Cool Drinkingcheers
