Palmer Divide has always been one of my all-time favorites - in all it's evolutions!

Thanks!

I've been rebuilding my timing setup a bit.  The original light bridge (built 3 track versions ago!), was way too tall and never looked very good to my eyes.  Part of it is that I used to have enough light to not need one for my computerized lap timing.  I'd still like to not have one, but just don't have enough ambient light to make it work.

So, the plan was to build a lower one, change the design of it, and maybe add an area for a TV crew up top.

After all the track builds (I really need to stop moving...), I had a bunch of bass and balsa wood in my scrap box as I tend to recycle things.  The new timing bridge has wood that goes back to my first pit structure I'd built in 2002, the footbridge on layout #2 from about 2007, and a bunch of other stuff thrown in for good measure.

While not yet decorated or completely weathered yet, it works well, the lighting is suitable to get reliable laps, and looks a bit better than the original, slab-sided version.

More to come!

While I lurk quite a bit, I've been very quiet on the forums for years.  I'm down to really only 2 since I don't care for social media and don't have FB.  Let me restate that: I actually don't CARE for other's social media.  That's better.

Thus, I've not posted any updates here in forever, and seeing some recent postings from others thought I would remedy that.

At the moment, the garage is a mess.  A good friend from Church is doing some heart work on his Jeep Wrangler, necessitating me to shove everything to one side so I can still get my Challenger inside at night.  He's almost done, but with 90+ degrees outside and no garage, I had to offer the air conditioned space.

This brings to light a serious flaw with my table design: it NEEDS to roll so I can get it out of the way when stuff like this comes up.  And it does regularly.  My neighbor has just purchased a 1930 Model A I'm working on for him, and I just can't do it outside in the summer as I simply melt in the heat.

The most important reason is the grandsons though...my Ikea legs are way too wobbly and that's a safety issue.

So, lumber is being purchased as soon as the Jeep moves out (hopefully today) so I can get the track to roll easily.

What I can show is something I built from a kit and added too with some 3D railings and details.  It isn't done, but as soon as the track is settled, I'll be back at finishing it all up.

I present: my homage to the RIR tower.  This is a kit from Race Track Scenics. A really nice kit that can be built as-is, or modified easily.

I promise to start posting more LOL.  Life is busy as always!

After a full day of sweating, crawling on my hands and knees, and lots of measuring, the track rolls smoothly!

It is light enough to easily move, has zero wobble, and no safety issues.

I'll finish up the storage platform under it later today and start cleaning the garage and track up.

A few updates, with the most important first: My grandson, Timothy, loves the track and spent over two hours just running laps.  He really likes lighted cars, so we ran the old Scalextric GT40s and Ferrari P4s. At 6v, he's done a good job figuring out how to slow for the corners, and holds the controller totally backwards, since that apparently works easier with his little hands.  We had an absolute blast.

Having issues loading multiple pics...will fix the rest later.
