Rally what bulbs do you use? How do you wire them - series or parallel? I assume they are 12 volt and you run them off a seperate power source to the track?

I have had these on my Ebay page for a while - have not yet got around to buying lighting. Still working on the ongoing problem of cleaning the garage to make space so i can work. Summer has really got in the way this year Sun

Ebay Chinese Lights.

Although HO scale - I thought they would look ok on sides of buildings, and inside buildings as well...

Any thoughts?

I have used small 12V 40mA lamps from the elctronics shop.They are connected parallel to each other to their own 12V transformer.
You mentioned HO lamp postst on Ebay. On the Dutch Trio Track, I have used some HO lighting as well.

Very nice Hub, I must get sorted and get some lights on my track ,hence the ask as to what you use.

I started out making my own from small flange type 12v bulbs that were used to illuminate push buttons on the control panels of computers when a small computer filled a large room. A piece of brass rod formed the curved upper bit with a piece of car brake pipe forming the column. The shade was made up from car copper fuel line. Source of the bulbs dried up decades ago as computer technology advanced :-(

I switched to Ebay sourced railway lights, adding an extension to the column to raise the height. Although rated at 12 volts I run them in parallel at 6 volts for longevity.

I recently (about 4 years ago, LOL) got nice metal lamps which have an LED built in. Again I will extend the height. Not installed any of these yet.

The extensions are a mix of plastic modelling tube and disposable biro pen tubes.

They look good Leo , must get cracking and see what I can come up with , trouble is my underboard wiring is very untidy !!!

^^^ Aren't they all ?? People tend to post pictures when everything is nice and new. 10 years later people refrain from revealing the guddle. (Obvs there are exceptions where some are kept tidy).

I've got some Led strips that are supposed to run on 3 off 1.5 batteries . Would a 5volt transformer work ,or will it blow them?..

Hello Steve,
I'm confidemnt that 5V will be OK. I just bought 2metres of these. Rated for USB power provision. The strip is wired (flexible copper tracks) in blocks of 3 so I was able to cut some blocks and carefully solder on wires to connect to a 5v source. Have left them on for over an hour and had no problems. Seller also has 12v versions - Ebay Linky
