Your one special Car which and why? -

So generically I collect Ferrari and Can Am.But there are those cars from my childhood that just stick out - Cucaracha, Cox Lotus 40, Scaley Lotus 20 and Sharknose Ferrari.
In a collection a few years ago, I picked up another one of those cars - Monogram Lotus 38.
When I got, I cleaned it up, repainted it and redecalled it. I noticed the the motor was the correct red monogram version, but that it had been balanced, and on closer investigation, lightly rewound as well. Old adverts from the 60's magazines came to mind and after investigation I found that this was one of those cars supplied new by Dyna rewind, and for an extra $ the motor was balanced and rewound. SO I guess it becomes slightly rarer as a result.
But the truth is I just love the car.

The Dyna rewind advert.

Note the grind style of balancing in advert and in the motor of the car.
Just love this car.
Whats yours??

An almost impossible question.
However, I guess it would be this one. I only have two of my original 60s cars left. This chassis is still as it was apart from the guide but the body has been changed a few times. It had an Alfa T33 on it originally.

It is quick and brilliant to drive. I tried it on the big track at Bordo in June and it was much quicker than all the 24th scale cars being used. It only ever lost one race in all the time I raced it. That was to Stan Alton at Howard Taylor's track in Brockley and he beat me by about two inches during one of the thursday night club meetings. Most enjoyable race I ever had even though I came second.

Mine has to be the first car I bought with my own money when I was twelve - the Scalextric Tyrrell 008...
[attachment=2443]
I distinctly remember going into our local model shop in Tilbury and deliberating at length over which of the unboxed cars I was going to buy. I narrowed it down to the either the Tyrrell or Ferrari 312T3 split from the 500 set - and eventually plumped for the 008. I'm pretty sure it cost £8 (maybe £6) which was all I could afford - the boxed cars were out of my league. However, it did win a lot of races against friends' Renaults, Ferraris, six-wheel Marches and later even against the Williams and Brabham.
The car in the pic is that very car. I was a big fan of Mario Andretti, hence the helmet! Now I have more cash than I did when I was twelve, I have added some of the other late-70s and early 80s F1 cars. The Tyrrell still gets run (including a few laps on a BSCRA national championship track - that raised an eyebrow or two!) and is still winning races nearly forty years on.

My special car is the SCX Ford Escort MkII, specifically Timo Makinen's 1975 RAC Rally winning car.
That's partly because I think the SCX Escorts are so much fun to drive, and so controllable even when they're sideways.
But it's also because it's the only car I can definitively say I remember on Oliver's Mount, and in the forest stages of North Yorkshire from my first ever trip to watch the RAC Rally.
[attachment=2496][attachment=2497]
[attachment=2498][attachment=2499]
I'd actually started to worry that SCX weren't going to produce the livery. In the end I got sick of waiting, and bought a resin kit, but this was a huge disappointment. The shell wasn't particularly well modelled and it was quite rough. My modelling skills weren't really good enough to compensate, and to make matters worse, the decals reacted with the top coat. Since the decals covered such large areas, it was quite noticeable.

So the car which should have taken pride of place, just sat there looking a bit sad.
Naturally, it was a huge relief when SCX finally released this iconic livery which completed Timo's hat trick of wins in the RAC. It finally filled the biggest gap in my modest collection.

My special car is a Proslot Toyota GT1. The car which gave me a maiden race win.
In 2003 I started club racing and was, predictably, very bad at it - last in every heat and usually lapped twice by the winner. I gradually got the hang of things, crept up the pecking order a bit but couldn't prepare a car properly to save my life. At the time I was editor of the NSCC magazine and I got an email one day from a guy called Jim Brown of Slot Tech who was selling race prepared slot cars and he wanted to know if I would like one of his cars to review. Trying not to sound too keen I said I would give it a go and this arrived a few days later:
[attachment=2500][attachment=2501]
To say it was a bit good is something of an understatement, the thing was absolute magic. I won 2 heats with it first time out and broke the lap record. More wins followed in the ensuing weeks and I finished 3rd in the championship that year. This was just before Slot.It arrived on the scene and Proslot cars were a bit like Scale Auto today - very fast but fragile. Their main weakness was the guide mounting which broke with monotonous regularity and I got through a lot of replacement chassis. I eventually had to tell the other club members where I got it but I know a lot of other people who won club races with Jim's cars and kept very quiet about their origins. The guy was a genius but disappeared many years ago and I am not sure whether he is still alive.
The Toyota was retired from club racing long ago but still gets the odd outing on my home track although I have to be a bit careful with it as I am on my last chassis. Even so it is only a tenth or two slower than my fastest GT car and it is still using the original tyres, wheels, motor and gears.

I've wanted one of those for ages = although in the right colour

. I know what you mean about the guide mounting. I have three ProSlot Alfa 156s that I use for guests to drive. All three have metal plates at the front but I really must fix them properly at some stage. Great cars though and give SlotiT cars a run for their money on my track.
