Scalextric/SCX Chaparral rebuild/re chassis -
chrisguyw - 12th-Jun-26
Here is a project that was way too much work, but , it is for a friend , so, I had little choice.
It is a Scaley/SCX Chaparral 2E, that he wanted to be made to look and run a bit better, which was not that hard

.
The starting point,.......this is not the actual car (this is a shot stolen from "Images"),...the actual car was a bit worse for wear.

It is a "Clamshell" design, which is generally not an issue, but, on this car there are slots molded into the upper/lower bodywork, which hold the rear end detail, and these all had to be ground away in order that the bits could be re installed, once the top/bottom body bits were glued.
Here is the dismantled car,................

I started with the chassis (the easiest part for me), and a single rail (.047) chassis was built,...it has a softish torsional flex, and handles very well with its 18K motor.

And the finished rolling chassis,..............

After way too much grinding/sanding/painting, and several bits made/added, I ended up with this.

The mesh on all the intakes/vents is from a Dollar store strainer,......looks a ton better than the stock plastic molded bits.
