1941 Willys - ARUP - 15th-Feb-25

[attachment=39603][attachment=39604][attachment=39605][attachment=39606]
I always had an affinity for the '41 Willys. I built a plastic model of the 'Stone, Woods and Cook' A-gasser as a youngster and would just stare at it and imagine driving and wrenching on it! Maybe my parents didn't realize it but dreaming about this and other things kept me out of trouble, lol.

I found this 'printed' body and bits on eeebay. I think it's my 1st experience with this type of manufacturing process. The 'stepped' layers were a royal pain to eliminate. Metal files had to be used. Only later did I learn acetone soaked cloth (?) could be used to smooth it. The chassis is brass. A Slottecknic digital chip and home made LED lights were added. The colors and graphics are spurious. Acrylic floor polish gives the decals protection and makes everything nice and shiney!

Oh yeah... the wheelbase is 72mm making it about 1/35 scale. I thought it looked smallish!

3D prints leave low spots so you're best spreading a thin layer of filler over the top then flatting back, that way you don't lose detail like you do when sanding the whole lot down to the low spots.

Well done! My older cousin, who introduced me to slot cars, drag raced a beautiful Kemtron powered 1/24 scale Stone, Woods and Cook Willys. He was a meticulous model maker and talented brass chassis builder whose standards I have never been able to match. It was was one of those stunning cars that left everyone in the dust off the starting line.

If you happen to have any pictures of your cousin's Willys feel free to post here! I'd love to see it.

Sorry, it was 60 (!!!!) years ago. It looked just like the box art. I remember the perfectly formed brass front drop axle. Good times carefully untangling them from the parachute silk at the end of the run. Gas class ran on 24V of automotive battery power.
