Are convertibles any more fragile than hardtops? -
drewdavis - 27th-Aug-24
Hi everyone :)! My husband and I have recently gotten into racing slot cars with a Carrera digital track we have set up in the house. We have been looking into cars to get us started. My question is: have y'all found the convertible models to be as durable as the hardtops? We are still getting going, sometimes including a ghost car and our daughter, so there is a non-zero amount of crashing. I like the look of some of the convertibles, but don't want to see pieces of them flying everywhere :). Appreciate any help, thank you :)!

HI Drew good to see you here :)
I Race a lot of open tops - both convertibles and prototypes - and have never had an issue with pieces falling off.

Welcome Drew.
The things that are most fragile on a slot car are the things that stick out from the body, so front and rear wings, and wing mirrors are all vulnerable on any car.
With a convertible, the windscreen is also slightly weaker as it isn't supported at the top, but Carrera cars are usually reasonably sturdy.

Hello Drew,
Welcome to the forum,
I think convertibles are cool. Everyone should have at least one.

Bugatti T50B isn't a convertible Ken, it was a Grand Prix race car.

Just checking who's paying attention.
One doesn't need a roof to race a car is all I'm trying to say.
