Forum Issues - JasonB - 9th-Jul-24

As you may be aware, we are having some issues on the forum at the moment.

Attached pdf files are showing a 503 error, image enlargements aren't working, and we have one member who can't upload photos, though whether that's the same issue  or not I don't know.

The 503 error usually indicates a server problem, and therefore it's more an issue for our hosting company whom I have contacted, and who are trying to fix it. But it's not a given that the problem is with the server. As always with any website, it can be a bit of a mistake to point the finger at any one element, as it's almost inevitably some sort of communication problem between the various technologies which serve up this hopefully coherent whole that we know as a website.

For this site, we have forum software, wordpress software, and hand coded pages. Behind that we have the server where we host it all, we have two mySQL databases which serve up the forum, and the wordpress content, we have the PHP which works it all, and I'm sure there are many elements I'm not even aware of behind that.

I guess all of that is leading up to me asking for a little patience, whilst we try to sort this out. We have to let our hosting company look at things first, because although communication is painfully slow, and progress is so far non-existent, they do have a dedicated tech team who are far more knowledgeable than I.

They have made a couple of changes to the backend tonight, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to have worked.

Whilst we wait for them to sort it out, if anybody has a pdf they desperately need to work, just PM me and I will sort it it out. Thumbup

Hi,

I'm having a problem trying to edit my own posts.
Although I am logged in there is no edit option on either PC or mobile.

Also is there a way to insert and excel clip without it coming in as an attachment.

Thanks in advance
Grant

Hi Grant,

To post pics without coming in as an attachment.

1) Press "Choose File" near the bottom left of the screen.
2) Then press "Add Attachment" near the bottom right
3) Put the curser where you want the pic. Then press "Insert Into Post" at the bottom right. Complete the rest of the thread and post it.

To edit pics/mistakes. Click the link below.

We've all gone down this road. It's an easy fix.

You only have a 4 hour window in which to edit your posts Grant. The facility is removed after that time. If it is an important edit then contact admin who will change it for you.

That's a bit of a bummer as I was using the first post of the proxy I am running to update with mods, makes it easy to locate all the rules that way.
I may just have to direct elsewhere for the rules & entrant information.
A bit of a shame.
Thanks for the response & I'll know for the future.

Its good practice to separate the admin stuff from the active stuff so any debate about rules doesn't get muddled with build and results posts.
