Motor rewinding - StuBeeDoo - 1st-May-24

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question.

Does anyone here rewind motors?  .........Or know anyone who does?

I have an SCX MGA, which is too much of a handful.  It's the only car I have with the RK- motor, if it had an RX- motor it wouldn't be a problem as I would just drop an RX-4 or -41 in there.

I've read, elsewhere, that an FK180 will go in if the chassis is modded slightly.  I could try that, but if I cock it up I'm looking at north of £80 to replace the car.  I did think of fitting a pod-type 3dp chassis, but neither of my usual 3dp chassis suppliers do one.

Thanks in advance,
Stuart.

Hi Stu, google found this thread -> https://slotracer.online/community/showthread.php?tid=2131&pid=16295

As far as rewinding I'd guess it'd mean a total rewind to make it slower, making it quicker is much easier by removing winds.

Thanks, Kevan.   Thumbup

Generally speaking, removing winds (dewinding) tends to reduce resistance of the arm, thus increasing speed.

However, that is VERY general.   The relationship between wire diameter, length (# of turns), magnet strength, and air gap all work together to create motor performance.

If you really want to experiment with motor performance consider shimming the magnets.  This will increase torque and reduce RPMs without having to change the wiring of the arm.

I have done rewinding of vintage arms....they worked fine and were fast but less brakes until I shimmed or changed magnets.  So it's a balancing act.
