Worn Out Another Policar Controller - Any Suggestions For A Replacement? - Scott - 5th-Feb-23

   

I love my Policar track and it gets used for an hour or so most days. Little wonder then that in the 18-20 months since I got it I've worn out two controllers, literally worn through the internal wire loops.

Now, this is not a complaint: these things are basic, cheap to make set controllers that come with the set and I don't expect them to withstand such prolonged use.  

Last time I replaced one it cost me £7.50.  Now the price is £11.  

Before I hit "buy now" I wondered if anyone has any suggestions for an alternative?

Hi Scott,

I'm sure everyone will have a different suggestion.

Our club has had great success with Professor Motor controllers. We all use model PMTR2110 at $139 each.

These have been bullet proof over many years, and many races. We've held "Iron finger endurance races" that last 6-hours long. I did 2,680 laps that day alone.

Professor Motor make a few models for Policar tracks. They are not cheap. But they are very good controllers.

Not for 11 quid though, but £11 every 10 months is peanuts, it'll take years to make it worth your while getting a basic electronic controller like a Truspeed that start at £66

With your long experience of slot racing both at home and club level this is a bit of a strange question Scott. You are bound to be aware of the multitude of controllers out there so what exactly are you looking for? If it's just a cheapy for home use then surely virtually any manufacturer's home set one can be wired up for a Policar track? They are all cheap as chips on eBay. I would assume you also have some Parmas and/or electronic ones for use at club level which could also be adapted.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Reading back I see I could have phrased my question better, but no matter because I was sent a link to Truspeed which led to what I wanted : an easy and cheap way to wire up alternative controllers.

I have a few old Parmas licking around, even a Fly, but they’ve not been used in years and I’m not sure they work. The £4 gizmo from Truspeed should easily allow me to find out.

As a safety net/balance I've also ordered another Policar set controller so I will have one for each lane on the rare occasion I get visitors keen to have a play.

If it's only the controller's resistor wire that wore out, couldn't you get some new wire and replace that?
