White Lines/track marker lines - gref - 18th-Aug-22

Need help with something better than what I used. I used 6mm pinstripe tape and it looks good on the straight sections, but no chance it will stay down on corners. I've tried rubbing a plastic edge over it to flatten it, but it just rises back up. Maybe 3M do something of quality? I got this from a car auto shop but its a failure  Tappingfoot [Image: image0-copy-43-jpeg.315595][Image: image1-copy-31-jpeg.315596]

Try narrower tape and be careful not to stretch it too much as you lay it. The wider the tape the harder it is to lay round corners. I used cheap 3mm stuff on my track. No problems laying it round corners, zero lifting, still good as new 5 years later. LINK

A wallpaper seam roller like this is also very handy for pressing it down as you go:

Yes, I concur. Tape way too wide. 3mm is the way to go. I used it on an HO club track for twenty odd years with only the need for occasional maintenance, replacing bits where chunks had been taken out by the steel guide pins as cars left the track.

Lay the tape on a good warm day and ease it INTO the curve from the outside of the radius, rather than the other way around - as if you were going straight on with the tape. Also, feed it gently into place rather than pulling it around the curve, which will strretch it.

There's a knack but once you've got it .....

so I tried the 3mm tape, better but still lifted on corners, its just not real sticky, so in fury pulled it all back up, thought id mask and paint but cant get smooth edge on corners Angry I will try correction tape if that doesn't work it will be no lines  Angry

MT-LCWHITE 4.0mm x 2.0mm Lane colour strips

MT-LCWHITE 4.0mm x 2.0mm Lane colour strips

If you are handy with a router you could utilise this system.

Lane striping has never been so easy with our own lane colouring system. Once the slot has been cut, it's just a matter of pressing or rolling in the plastic lane colour strips. It also has the added benefit when re-painting your track. Simply pull the coloured strips out. Mask up the areas for painting. Then reinstall the lane colour strips. Job Done!

SOLD BY THE METRE. We have 9 colours available @$0.55/metre. (Colour may vary slightly from the photo)

The nominal cross section size is approx 4.0mm x 2.0mm (dimensions can vary slightly)

The installation Process:
- You can have either the 4mm face showing or the 2mm face showing. (See photos)
- For a 4mm wide lane colour stripe: Cut a slot 4mm wide x 2.3mm deep
- For a 2mm wide lane colour stripe: Cut a slot 2.3mm wide x 4.2mm deep.

For decades, all commercial tracks (and a ton of club tracks) used a lane striping tool to paint the lane colour stripes, and it works equally well to paint inside and outside track boundaries. A little white emulsion paint and you can "roll on" lane marking/track limits in minutes.

Here is a pic of the tool, in this case used to apply lane colours to a BSCRA track......it has an adjustable guide, to maintain a consistent distance from the slot, or, track edge.

Not the best pic. to show, but,  here is a pic. of my track  with "painted" track boundaries painted with this tool......the "stripes will not peel up, will not be affected by cars crossing them, and if you use the same type paint as your track surface, the grip will be the same,.......very inexpensive, very durable, and very quick !!

I ended up painting my lines using tape and acrylic paint with a brush. It goes extremely quick and looks pretty good.  I used a narrow brush and only laid down 1 coat.  Peeled the tape within minutes of painting.  I've done it this way on every track. I also am not concerned with "perfect" lines...no lines in life are and would look unnatural in my eyes.

This is on the second track I built:

When it was all completed:

After my experience with this method on the Dutch Trio Track I agree with you; it's the way to go. Thumbup
