This should be brilliant for repairs also, no doubt would also work on resin and 3D bodyshells (I have a few test mules).

I’ve used a soldering iron for modifying plastic slot car chassis like this, but I’d always thought it wouldn’t be tidy enough for bodies. I guess this video proves me wrong!
