New forum about 3D printing - CMOTD - 19th-Oct-21

As requested - a new forum to cover 3D printing. This is experimental at the moment to see what sort of response it gets. Feel free to post anything 3DP related here and we will subdivide it as necessary once it is established. I will move a few relevant things over here but please let me know if you find something that needs relocating. As it is a trial forum then remember the old adage - use it or lose it.

Nice one, I'll have to gather my posts from afar....  Thumbup Thumbup

I've now added dwg, stl, obj, & 3ds files to the allowed attachments on the forum, so you should now be able to upload files in those formats. I'm away from home at the moment, so I haven't been able to check out whether it all works, and bizarrely obj and 3ds files still don't have a standard MIME type associated with them in spite of them having being around for donkey's years. So it's a bit of an experiment.

The file size limit is currently 5mb, but we'll see how this goes, and adjust if necessary.

3MF would be a worthy addition.

Okay, 3mf added. Thumbup

RE: New forum about 3D printing - Kevan - 20th-Oct-21

3mf is really useful, you can export from Fusion 360 as 3mf and open them in MS 3DBuilder (and other softwares).

I've never used 3mf as my professional work has always been modelling for presentation, and of course it wasn't even around when I started.

But with it being specifically aimed at 3d printing, and with the big hitters involved, you would naturally expect it to be fit for that purpose.

However, the title of that video, is kind of contradicted in the very first sentence the narrator says, or at least the first half of it is. Rofl

Yeah, when I saw the title, I wasn't even sure that was the video I wanted to share, but it at least explains the purpose and advantages of the format nicely.
