Meanwhile, motor racing in the wide open spaces of Donington Park without a single spectator allowed. Is there nobody in government with any idea how covid safe motorsport spectating can be?

Agreed 100%. 

Mad that a load of kids can cram in a shed overnight but you can't attend a race meeting in twenty eight acres of open countryside. 

Even at the best of times at Dony you'd be hard pushed to be within two metres of another spectator out in the open, unless you were sitting in the stands.
