1959 Impala Sports Coupe -

I found this static kit at a flea market. They called these "bubble tops" because they had almost nothing for window posts. Don't flip the real car, or the roof might collapse.

These are the parts being used. Note the clear hard-top roof. It forced me to paint the entire body and roof rather than match just the roof.

The kit came with 3-options. Hard-top, soft-top down, or soft-top up.

Body and roof painted. The chassis is ready to assemble.

Chassis assembled.

Full interior installed. Back seat is only sitting there until the motor and chassis fills the space.

Test fitting the body to the chassis. Back seat removed in favour of 2 x 15" inch subwoofers to hide the motor.
[attachment=8952]
Body and chassis mounted. Inserts installed. I left the subwoofers out to show the motor.

Top down.

Soft-top up.

The car will end up with the hard-top glued on after I locate and install a suitable driver.

Fantastic work as always.
Quite a weight of car for such a flimsy roof.

Thank you very kindly, GT Sprite and Jason.
The 59 Chev "bubble top" was also famous for another reason. In a world where truth didn't sell cars. But lies sure tainted sales. Another car manufacturer spread a rumour about the 59 Chevy in that the back end of the car became airborne at highway speeds due to the large lateral fins, and you could possibly crash and umm... die?
Utter nonsense!

Those Gunze Sangyo kits were very good quality particularly when you consider they were first released at least 35 years ago now. They are quite difficult to find now at a reasonable price. That is a great slot car build

I could not agree more Autoavia. The Gunze kits are extremely well made and detailed.
I recently bought a 59 Eldorado for $8 US plus $11 shipping on EBay from a top seller. It was new, but the box was opened. You need to be patient and keep checking. Good deals still show up.
Thank you for your kind words.
