How to slam a 63 T-Bird - KensRedZed - 12th-Sep-20

The Gunze Sangyo line of static model kits are beautiful to build. But even more fun to convert into a slot car.

First step was to change the colour to something close to what Ford offered for the real car. Tamiya metallic orange looks about right.

This specific shade of paint will not shine without clear coat. Here's the difference.

The body was measured for wheelbase, guide, and body post details. The chassis was fabricated.

Custom aluminum chassis with Sloting Plus roller bearings. BWNC1 motor with 13x28 gears. Slot It rear and BWA front wheels with D'Art tires. Professor Motor axles and wire. Slot It guide and braid. The original wheels from the kit were turned down and used as inserts.

The car is very stable on the track due to it's width. It weighs 81-grams.

Thank you very kindly for looking.

I would love to know where you get these kits from , I've been after some for ages but they are like hens teeth over here and expensive when one does come up for sale .

...and what holds the motor in place?

RE: How to slam a 63 T-Bird - KensRedZed - 13th-Sep-20

I have 4 Gunze models all converted into slot cars. 2-kits from a flea market and 2 from EBay. I have paid as low as $20, and as high as $35.

5-minute epoxy holds the motor in place. Who needs a sidewinder pod? Not me. My club laughed at me when I first glued my motors in. Now many are doing the same. Think outside the box. Just don't get glue in the windings or the motor is junk.
