Rover BRM - KensRedZed - 11th-Sep-20

I bought this kit at a flea market. I never heard of the car before I bought it. This is the 1964 version. Jackie Stewart drove a similar one in the 1965 LeMans.

3/4" inch square aluminum tubing is being used for the chassis. The sanding disk was used to square the end.

A drawing is made for proper hole locations. The tubing is marked and scribed. Then drilled and reamed for bearings.

The top of the chassis was cut away with a bandsaw. Then assembled.

The body had severe mold lines throughout. Even though I liked the colour, it had to be painted.

Sir Jackie Stewart is ready to race.

Custom aluminum chassis with Sloting Plus roller bearings. BWNC1 motor with 10x23 gears. Slot It wheels, inserts, guide, and braid. D'Art tires. Professor Motor axles and wire.

My humble apologies to the Rover fans for the incorrect inserts. I'll change them when I find something better. Thank you very kindly for looking.

Excellent work, love the chassis. Thumbup

Perfect stance and wheelwell filling wheels and tyres. Too dark to see the wheel inserts properly in most of the photos, so they don't detract anyway.

Thank you for your kind words Jason and Top Down. Here are some photos of the real car. It's funny how buying a kit makes you curious to look into a car's history.

It was a handsome car. There is also an article from Model Cars magazine about the 1965 version in the Library

It only took three and a half years for the black Slot.It turbine inserts to wear me down. The gas-turbine prototype now has the correct wheel inserts.

Really ice job!!! Great car. What also must be awesome is all your cars have the same chassis and drivetrain - thus are pretty equal in Racing? Nes Pas?

RE: Rover BRM - KensRedZed - 23rd-Jun-23

Hello Anthony,

I humbly thank you for your kind words.

The cars are all very forgiving. I win enough races in my small circle to get noticed. Chris Walker says it's because the cars made very square. Who am I to argue?

The biggest difference is between the various platforms. Tall cars with slow motors like a VW Beetle require more weight up front. Low and fast cars like the weight closer to the back.

The following cars do not handle the same at all even though they all have an aluminum chassis. Some have big motors with fat tires. Others have 14k slow motors with skinny tires. Some cars have magnesium wheels. The slow cars are around 75-grams (minimum weight, club rules). The faster cars can be as heavy as 110-grams.

It all depends on the class of car.

Great job Ken, it's got a Bond feel to it that shape car.
I love the rear section with those nice little lights.

Hi Tony,

I humbly thank you for your kind words.

The best part about scratch building is finding rare cars that aren't normally slot cars, and converting them.
