Presumably a business decision, but difficult to fathom. The recent Alpine A110 is hardly a big seller but maybe another model is imminent. I suspect its a move towards a sale for 2022.

There's a little bit more detail here:

Sounds like a new marketing director has woken up and found that they have a sleeping brand and believes that will make him or her a super-hero.

The mock up livery looks nice.

Perhaps it will be as Abarth is to Fiat, or Cooper to Mini?

The Abarth and Cooper brands diluted to badges for everyday cars. Alpine has been through that ignominy, as have many other automotive brands - history shows that that policy only works until buyers wake up to the reality of what they are buying and switch brands.
As B.A. Roberston once said -
"
There's got to be a limo to take me down the shops,
Tell them they can stuff it, I'm not about to rough it
In some Granada Ghia, I was top of the pops."
