Hi from UK - Stradale - 1st-Sep-20

I'm from Norfolk, UK
I've been a slot car racer on and off for 60 years, but more buying cars than racing these days, which isn't ideal, but possibly sounds familiar.

Around 1961, our first set-up was the old Scalextric rubber track with the white lane markings.  It had a certain magic that ‘Plexy track’ couldn’t match but for some reason it was sold and my brother and I were bought a 1963 Formula Junior set.  Those junior motors and pinions were not built for hours of racing.  In the 60s, we and our friends wore out Scalex motors and axles and melted speed controllers, racing all day and begrudgingly stopping to eat and rest our thumbs.  I started learning to fix things then, a valuable bonus. The Scalextric cars of choice were those like BRM P25, Ferrari 156 and the 250SWB and Aston GT cars.  Nowadays, my brother doesn't drive modern, fast NSR and Slot.it type cars for long, but with slower cars we can still enjoy long races.

I built a four-lane track around 2000 which stayed down for two winters and provided a lot of enjoyment.  It was in the Targa style; tight and flowing and compound curves with a choice of voltages up to high volts and big capacitors if required and Parma controllers.  I built a timing system using an old PC and stripped out Fly and Scalextric cars were what we ran at that time. Fly 908/3s were a car to choose on that track, but I’ve acquired a few more competitive 908s since then that feel like they will be a lot of fun when I can get another track up and running.

Here are some cars that aren't always on the shelf.

This site has a lot of useful stuff on it, that I have really enjoyed connecting with. Many thanks.

Bill

Welcome. Norfolk is the best place for a slot racer with four clubs. Norwich Slot Racing in, er..., Norwich, Presto Park at Hevingham near Aylsham, Anglia Slot Racing at Gorleston and Mussel Bay which normally races at Ashill near Watton but because of Covid it is using the track at Silverwood Raceway in Long Sutton, South Lincolnshire.

I've raced at all four they will all make you very welcome . I currently race at Presto and Mussel Bay while waiting for Norwich to re-open. It's in a village hall which has been closed due to Covid but hopefully will re-open next week.

Jason

One thing that has not changed in my slot racing years is that at no point have I owned too many cars; there's always a few more on the list.

Heheh.

I've never heard of such a thing as "too many cars". Rofl

We all have a few on our list, and by the time we cross those off the list, we've added a few more. Wrench
