Scaleauto/Slot.it Motor Mount Interchangeability -

So I had installed an Oxigen chip in my Scaleauto Porsche 991 R-Series car...
[attachment=5840]
But the 'packaging' of the chip was not very neat due to the bulky front end of the Scaleauto motor mount stopping being able to lay the chip flat on the chassis and requiring the use of a remote IR LED...and that was niggling me. So the obvious thing to do was to change the motor mount to a Slot.it version as the front end of those leave more room to lay the chip flat on the chassis floor. But whilst it might have sorted out business at the front, the new mount was causing chaos at the rear!
Firstly the SI rear axle mounts are spaced further apart than on the SA version. And secondly, the SI mount seems to position the motor slightly further to the right hand side of the chassis compared to the SA one. The result being that the pinion gear and the anglewinder gear no longer met, and the body did not seem to fit properly around the motor. Having swapped the SA mount back in to sort out the rear end, I could not go back to the ill fitting digital chip, so the SI mount went back in and a decision made to 'follow' the problem through at the rear end to try and sort it out. So as a first step, I have just bought a new (SI) motor with a slightly longer shaft which hopefully will allow the pinion gear to at least reach the anglewinder gear and hopefully mesh together as they should do.
Was I being a bit naive to think swapping motor mounts between manufacturers would be a straightforward exercise?

No - not naive.
I and other club members have swapped numerous pods out on Vipers and Porsches.
For at least the last 5 years, ScaleAuto have made their chassis with holes the same as the Slot.it ones.
The car I sold you is identical to the R series one which I did the article on, and which is now running a Slot.it sidewinder setup.
So i cannot understand you having a problem with width of holes.
What are the centre hole to centre hole widths, can you show us some pictures

Hi Mr Loco
No complaints at my end, just an observation that the two anglewinder mounts position the anglewinder gear at different locations along the rear axle, requiring a change in motors as well.
I will take some photos when I go back in...

Hi BourneAgain,
I have replaced the standard anglewinder motor pod in my BMW Z4 'R' Series with a Slot.it one. This was some time ago but I can't remember having any problem like yours at all.

Ah, I think I get what you mean.
Not being sure which gears you used - I do know some AW gears have the boss to the inside and some to the outside - might make a difference for you.
Personally I prefer a sidewinder setup, so my retro fits have been mainly that way.

Based on advice from Pendle, I have splashed out on some Slot.it pinion and anglewinder gears (and some spacers just in case...).
So that's just been three orders with Pendle this week!

Conversion complete...
On the recommendation of the good people at Pendle, I bought a new 6.75mm pinion gear and 27t anglewinder gear (I have kept the original SC 12/27 ratios), both by Slot.it, and it all now fits together and runs.

Had to lose a bit of the drivers seat because of the capacitor (?) on the chip, and tried to fit the full mrslotcar chassis damping kit but the longer bolts also clashed with the car interior, so just fitted the thin washers between chassis and mount and used the original screws.
Now to fit some lights...

Slight change of direction. Now building up a DiSCA GT3 car (left) and a DiSCA WEC (right) as a little project. Here are the fruits of a productive Friday evening...

I've got the chip ready for the WEC car, but cannot find the regulation wheel/tyre set for the GT3 car anywhere in the world at the moment.
(All done by a learner following articles and advice on here from Slotloco and Tamar!)

Hello Jeremy
Scaleauto Procomp3 20,5 x 9mm (SC 2018) currently out of stock at Pendle (not much stuff getting out of Spain lately)
But if you don't want to wait to finish your GT3 build you could also use the
20,5 x 11mm (SC-2009)
You may have to trim the outside of the wheels to fit the wider wheels under your body....but at least these are still in stock.
Note There's an error in Pendle's description these wheels are for 2,38mmø axles...not for 3mmø axles.
Hope this helps
With kind regards

Thanks for the tip...i had put the 11mm tyres in my Pendle wishlist, but then with a bit of time on my hands I found some 9mm ones round the corner from you at slotraceshop.nl.
The postage is high to the UK, so I thought it made good economical sense to buy some other bits from him that I don't need in order to spread the cost...
