The SlotRacer's Manual - JasonB - 19th-Feb-20

[attachment=5662]

We've been working on a new section of the site, which we'd like your help with.

The SlotRacer's Manual

It's intended to be a reasonably comprehensive guide to slot cars, tracks, and racing, whilst attempting not to make anything too complicated, too long to read, or too expensive. We're hoping to cover most of the things that everybody needs to know, all in one place.

But our knowledge only goes so far, so we'd like to ask you to have a look and let us know what you think, and perhaps help us to fill in a few gaps.

We're particularly interested in...
Basically, all opinions, suggestions, criticisms, links, videos, and offers of help would be gratefully received.

Thank you. Thumbup

Great stuff, love it. A great 'go to' one-stop resource.

Thank you  Thumbup

Thank you.

RE: The SlotRacer's Manual - john roche - 20th-Feb-20

Good so far but nothing about scratch building or wooden tracks and building them yet.

Cheers

John

Thanks John. Those are two of the areas we're looking for people with more experience to help out with. Thumbup

RE: The SlotRacer's Manual - Gordon Steadman - 20th-Feb-20

Scratch building seem to be one of those subjects that could have a thousand different approaches. The cars I build would have limited interest because they mostly use 60s gear although I have done a few with modern motors. I certainly don't feel that I could offer any of mine as a guide, more misguided I suspect.

Someone like Chris Walker would be more the ticket if he is interested and willing.

Could we tempt you into writing a short article about carving bodyshells Gordon?

RE: The SlotRacer's Manual - Gordon Steadman - 21st-Feb-20

I am awaiting a supply of balsa to do a Maserati Streamliner. I'll try and document it and see how it turns out. Compared with most of the people doing hand made bodies, I'm a bit slapdash and disorganised so I'm not sure how much help it will be.

However, it would show how I do it so I'll give it a go. No promises. I haven't made a major cock up yet but you never know Bigsmile

That would be great Gordon, thanks very much. Thumbup

Regarding scratchbuilding: with few exceptions most scratchbuilds are built to a particular set of rules and for a particular series

Those series also tend to have a set number of tracks and events.

Also as someone who has moved around the world a few times a lot of the recommendations are around what paint, glue, plastic etc to use and that can be a very local thing.

Still, there are likely a few very basic set of skills that could apply...
