Ebay search, use the phrase "spoke tubes"

To loosen the screw grip, drill to size.

To make the tubes tighter (and prettier) on the screw, use a slip over shrink wrap tube (usually used for power cable joints) and use a soldering iron to shrink to size. (Don't use a hair dryer, that would warp the body) 

Some old-school constructors use side mounts (as do "slot.it" on the hrs2 chassis) but this does not provide controlled rocking of the body around a fixed pivot point that can be achieved with body posts.

The modern way it to have 2 posts, 1 front, 1 rear , both on the centreline, and float the body on 4 set screws , 1 at each corner of the chassis.

Petrucci started the ball rolling with an auction find from the 60s, and still in it's box. It was an "Adjust-o-Rig" that he had seen on one of JohnK's videos. It is some sort of jig to assist with setting up the axles when scratch building a chassis. But listen out for the gasp from California as Petrucci un-boxes it and throws the packaging down on his busy workbench...

JohnK gave an update on Greg's Christmas present. The two main body parts have been conjoined and the curves seem to match nicely. He has opened up the vents over the front wheels and drilled three random holes in the bonnet/hood. Oh well, it was bound to go wrong sometime, but Greg looked happy, which is the main thing.

Jim Rose gave a glowing report on the new OS3 TFX pancake chassis, which is a modern take on the old T-Jet from the 60s. He was raving about the clever design touches and modern take on the old formula. It sounded like a modern classic.

Henri has been going through the old problem of attaching a static model body to a slot car chassis. And to add to the challenge, he is wanting to race it hard against some Mustang V8s. Along to the rescue was our own Alan Nonfractal with possibly the most perfect solution for a cycle loving Dutchman (more details in the post above).

Mike has bought a magnet marshall, Dewann has bought a box. Luckily for him it contained a classic Revell slot car set from the 60s that looked like it had been used once and then put away for 60 years. Luckily for him it was at a bargain basement price. He also bid on some old controllers and won two out of the three. However they all got sent to the other winner. Luckily, that was Chuck, and he recognised Dewann from the Chat and they found there was back to their rightful owner. Small world.

Dennis hosted a Revoslot proxy race last week. A few pictures and a video, but lots of tyre advice and tuning tips for any Revoslot lovers out there...and that seems to include Greg who was continually probing Dennis and hoping he would say it was the F40. Dennis was too much of a gentleman to name names, but the clues were all there...

But GReg has learnt a tuning lesson in the past week that he shared with us. His 911 GT1 from last week had been sorted to the best of his ability. The interior had been interfering with one of the power wires, that was why it had not been sitting right. But now the problem was the cars sluggish performance. Comparing it to others in the race, he couldn't see any major difference using his fingers to feel his way round them all. But someone else thought one of the tyres might be rubbing, and this it might be worth adding a bit of float to the rear axle and BOOM!, with these two minor adjustments, the car was a revelation. If ever we needed reminding that every little detail on a car set up is critical... 

Brian's being buying new cars, but everyone wanted to know about his thingies, but now they are thingies with fantastic paint jobs and some of the straightest paint lines you could ever wish for.

And to finish off, a discussion on standardisation of rules, or organising bodies, for slot racing. There was a time when rules were handy to bring together different scratch builders so that they were all producing matched cars that could race against each other. But it seems nowadays it's more of a manufacturer's domain, although most of their rules revolve around single make series, i.e. their own make. But ask Petrucci about the time he was almost crowned Scalextric World Champion!

JohnK started the Chat off with an update on the Porsche 'cut & shut'. It's progressing nicely and some of the finer details were thrashed out with the builder who will be taking the casting through the next stage. He also showed us a bit of fun he had had turning a VW camper van into a TV van by creating an array of TV monitors with pictures on the screen that light up. Very clever. Greg then updated us on his Tyre Razor Reciprecater project. It's been released into full production and Greg is giving one away in a free to enter competition. Get your entry submitted quick!

Don had picked up a bargain vintage Polistil McLaren F1 car. He must be a bit of a risk taker because he was the first person to open the original box, so couldn't have been sure of the condition of the contents. Dewann doesn't worry about minor details like that, if it had Revell on the box, he's going to bid for it. He was bidding on seven Revell 1/2 straights and curves in original boxes in a recent auction, and only missed out in the last few seconds when the price went from $63 to $609. Just one more bid and those seven little pieces of plastic track could have been yours Dewann, just one more bid...

Jim from North Cal showed off some Victory Line magazines which cover classic car racing. He had written a piece for one edition regarding slot car racing. Big Den in Tasmania has a McLaren similar to Don's. He also had acquired some old slot car magazines, and as soon as he can find where he put them he will show them off on a Chat.

Greg was in full 'Bill Gates' mode this week as he announced he was giving away even more of his wealth in the second competition. It's another car giveaway...nominations were taken, votes were cast, and the make and model were decided. Get your entry in quickly!

ChrisW showed us a Lotus 56 he had just finished for a client. Beautiful details everywhere, and then when you looked really close, even the details were detailed! His moustache on Graham Hill was well received, perhaps he will try eyes again one day. Even the gauges on the dash had cables coming out the back. But there were a few tut-tuts regarding the tyre profiles...you just can't please everyone! And the car it was modelled on triggered plenty of discussion regarding it's racing history and various configurations. Fascinating stuff. 

Wayne showed us a gift he had received from the other side of the world thanks to a comment had had made on a Chat regarding unobtainable SCX rear axles. Lance in Hawaii had a couple of spares and sent his some. Wayne is so pleased he is planning a trip over to thank Lance personally. He's been roaming round Lance's neighbourhood on Google Streetview, he just hasn't managed to work out where he lives yet.

Club Corner touched on RCS series race management with Mike, and Greg's club have chosen Pioneer Legends as their new single make championship car. Jeremy is in desperate need of a new club to race with as it seems his rule bending antics at his local club is putting his membership at risk by the establishment. Luckily he has found one that's only half way across Idaho.

Lance asked what sounded like a odd question about tracks having too much grip, but it generated an interesting discussion regarding the pros and cons of cleaning a wood track as opposed to leaving it 'rubbered'. Perhaps the 'rubber' on the track is not rubber, but a build up of various tyre treatments and dust deposits from months or years of racing?

And to finish, a quick fire round of "Ask Anything", because if Greg doesn't know the answer and it gets thrown out to the Chat, there will very probably be someone who can provide an answer, and we all get to learn another bit of knowledge to help us on our way on our slot car journey.

I did try at one point to list out topics and timings, but the Chats are quite 'free flowing' and it is difficult sometimes to actually define what they are talking about! But I do make sure I capture the big issues that might be of interest to others in my summaries.
