"Everyone loves slot cars!"

Kelly loves muscle cars, he's just bought a load. Neil loves trucks, but prefers his muscle cars 'vanilla' so he can decorate them to his liking. He also raised some issues relating to race circuit landscaping...is a scheme ever finished?...how do you avoid damaging beautifully created scenery with offs? Watch the video for the answers. Chris showed us a champagne gold McLaren, which has a gem of a brass chassis.

Greg then took us into the brave new world of 3D printed tyres. You can theorise as much as you want about the concept, but nothing beats seeing how someone has approached the topic and having the evidence of success or otherwise laid out in front of us. And he told an interesting story...And he was also told another way to make front tyres which cuts out all the fiddly stuff!

Wayne highlighted a recent story regarding slot cars operated by brain waves rather than hand controllers. We all decided the cars would all probably suffer from a lack of brakes. However, as a vision of this slot car future, Greg showed us some 'out of this world' you tube videos, just stunning.

Newbie Jeremy took us through his slot car history. A newbie to the Chat, but fully competent is all things slot car related, including driving slot cars by just eye movement...

Greg then gave us a masterclass in how to plan a track using software rather than just starting with whatever is at the top of the box and working through to the last piece. Straights, corner design, borders, lane changers for digital, crash zones if you are running on 3D printed tyres. All the clues were there for any of us to be able to sign up to one of the pieces of software and have a go.

And finally, prize winning Kyle was back to show off his new car, which was just one of many in some very well stocked display cabinets. One for 'Show + Tell' in another Chat perhaps. But watch this Chat if you want to see his diy 'deer-proof' slot car carry case, his racing bus which doubles as a moneybox, and his 'circuit with wings'!

"Ho Ho Ho...and I don't mean Christmas!"

It was all a bit surreal this week. John was Greg, and Greg was mobile with a surprised look on his face. No wonder...he had been transported into probably the world's greatest house (for a slot car enthusiast). There were slot car tracks in every room, but it was like Lilliput because everything was smaller than it should be. They even had magnifying glasses so they could see the little cars in more detail. But then Greg let us into his little secret, he was in HO World! He struggled to provide any detail on the event he was competing in, mainly because he was in a hurry for his lunch. He would get back to us later with further information. Alan was in his car, hopefully his real one. Or maybe he had made himself very small and was being driven around a track by Greg. It was all very confusing, I wish I hadn't missed the first 30 minutes.

'Alan in His Car' highlighted the fact that after power, balance was the second most important requirement for going fast, and NSR had produced some balanced crown gears...which begged the question, is the grub screw that holds them onto the axle that much different in weight to the material taken away to form the hole they screw into. Possibly, if that material is aluminium, or 'aluminium' as our North American friends call it.

Neil had put a video together of his home setup, and what a setup. Shelf after shelf of racers; a track with a wonderful girder bridge and most importantly, 'Work in Progress' on the scenery so we were able to pick up tips from the materials and technique used...e.g. top notch rock faces. And to round off the room, a driving sim set up to relax at. Perhaps Greg could visit there next week? John reckoned you didn't need to hide your racing sim away in your basements, he has his in his lounge. They are hidden inside large padded boxes that you sit inside (to keep the sound in). The only problem is you need someone in the room to get the lid off and let you out when you have finished.

Neil had issues with sourcing performance parts for his Carrera cars. Alan in His Car broke the news to him that everyone has that problem. No two manufacturers make compatible kit, so no mixing and matching of components. It was suggested he start with the wheel inserts and work outwards from there.

Dewann brought tears to the eyes of some of the old guard on the Chat with his Show + Tell...a teaser picture of a few hundred of the many pieces he owns laid out in a circuit large enough to need all furniture removed from the room. "Look at that grey colour!"..."No mistaking that smell!"..."Don't ever get rid of it except to me!".

Brian has got into 3D printing, producing can-am cars made with the best features from the all the best cars! However he has worked out it doesn't really matter how good the car runs straight out of the printer as long as you have a Slot.it SCP-2 controller in your hand to override all the quirks, your car will be a winner. Alan in His Lab has gone one step further with his SCP-2...he's added a relay that gives you full power at the touch of a button, or switch, or combination of both...he hasn't quite worked it out yet.

Dennis gave us an update on the HO chassis he is being forced to make for a 'friend'. It's all a bit small, but everyone was interested in the micro motors in these small cars incase they could be used in 1:32 scale-land. Now there's a project for someone...

And finally, we returned to Greg, apparently fresh from his liquid lunch, and I don't mean soup. The surprised look on his face had been replaced by a permanent grin as he went round the pits trying to spot the differences between all the different classes of HO cars. Some seemed to have three gears on top of the motor, some were driven by a propellor rather than the wheels. Greg was taking it all in and the wanted to know which type to get if he was to take the scale up seriously. An original T-Jet seemed to be the solution, although these cost a fortune if you are lucky enough to find someone willing to part with one. A hand goes up in the Chat: -

"Yes?"

"I've got some original T-Jets..."

"Oh wow"

"Yeah, probably about two hundred and fifty of them..."

Add that man to the 'Greg on Tour' itinerary.

"SlotRacer.Online Worldwide Slot Car Chat Reviews  5.0*****(1)"

Frank was introduced to the Chat as a newcomer to the hobby. But he is setting the bar high if being a newcomer means you have to own at least 350 cars...and have them neatly displayed in cabinets...in a garage with a nice landscaped track...which has a name! Dwainn set him straight however, you are a newcomer until you have watched all the previous Chats, and he has just got that monkey off his shoulder and passed it onto Frank. Now if anyone wants to catch up on all the Chats before next week's get together, I have calculated you need to watch them for 18.8hrs a day. However, to save time, you could follow Greg's glowing endorsement and read the excellent reviews of each episode here on Slotracer.Online instead.

John K gave us an update on Greg's Christmas present. After a bit of persuasion, G bought into the story that it was going fine, and that all those different coloured shaped pieces will all blend together into a little gem.

Greg mentioned again about the dream he had had of a Sunoco liveried Pioneer legend car, which got everyone hurrying to their second screens to try and prove they did actually exist. Travis won the game by pretending to find one and promising to get one for him 'shortly'. Greg was left dangling for another week...

And then we had the story from Greg as to where he was last week. He had gone over to 'the far side', but had returned, a bit like a Hobbit. He had been to a Magic Kingdom full of big little HO tracks with lots of HO cars, 22 quarrelling drivers, and as many takeaway meals as you can eat. The cars were fast, but not as fast as some other HO cars, but they had crazy wide wheels and rotating gears on show, it was all very Mad Max in miniature. Or as he put it, he was in a strange land, meeting a house full of strange people, racing strange cars on strange tracks. But he had great fun and made lots of new friends, and, I think I heard him right, managed to sell three cars to these HO experts. Not sure what kind they were, but he bought three allsorted crackers to replace them, one fast one, one slow one, and one without a body. Perhaps he should have done the deal before they went to the Mexican restaurant to celebrate the end of the meet. But what this story also highlighted, and which was repeated by the other HO enthusiasts on the Chat, was that HO racing sharpens your reactions and your trigger finger/eye co-ordination. And as a consequence, a lot of the top racers in 1:32 clubs turn out to be HO racers on the side.

And to finish off this Slot car meal, the final course was dished up by Wayne who had discovered that his Tyre Razor truer could be truer...it was not producing the same size diameter goods on the left hand end of the axle to the right hand end. And others on the Chat had experienced the same problem. And someone on the Chat possibly knew how to solve it. You had better watch to find out how.

[Thanks for reading, and if you could fill out the feedback forms and put them on my desk when you leave, that would be appreciated]
