Scalextric - Mini Metro 6R4: C7006

These are really great little cars and one of the few still available with tampo printing

This shows what can be done with Incar-Pro firmware .............    [Image: smile.png]

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_48826.jpg]
Notice the neat way that Scalextric have allowed the headlight to bleed through the
outer running lamps .....

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_5964.jpg]
The wiring loom has been replaced with 30awg instead of the 26awg gauge wiring ...

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_33615.jpg]
The view from the other side with points of interest marked ................

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_24780.jpg]
The tail-lights in normal use ....

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_49683.jpg]
Brake lights on .....

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_22033.jpg]
Tail-lights on in the dark .....

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_10962.jpg]
The brake lights are even more pronounced after dark .......

[Image: gallery_11296_1730_4180.jpg]
and finally, the headlights .......

There was another livery that I was looking forward to but that was cancelled last year,
the Beluga.
It now seems unlikely that it will ever see the light of day or the heat of
battle on the track ........   [Image: sad.png]

Scalextric Lotus 25: modified C8516

The long awaited Lotus 25 has arrived. My first close look at it reveals that
this is another one of Scalextric masterpieces ......

[attachment=4802]
Separating the body shell from the chassis was a bit of a puzzle with only
three screws holding them together ....

[attachment=4803]
The rear suspension did not want to release the back axle easily. Gently
teasing of the joints found a way as fortuitously no great gobs of glue
were apparent ...

[attachment=4804]
Some modification of the chassis is required. The large lump on the right,
though which the retaining screw was insert, will have to go and the two
pillars on the left will need some attention ....

[attachment=4805]
A C8516 needs preparing by removing some bits and swapping others
out. The infrared LED has been removed. The JST socket in the centre
has gone and the whopping big capacitor replaced with some MLCC ones ....

[attachment=4806]
The posts have been nibbled away and a new LED has been inserted....

[attachment=4807]
The chip is now placed over the LED ready for soldering at the correct length ....

[attachment=4808]
The infrared LED is now attached ....

[attachment=4809]

The fit for the shell onto the chassis was checked with Jim in place .... no
problems so far ....

[attachment=4810]
Before the going any further, the midified chip needed to be tested to ensure
full functionality ....

[attachment=4811]
Having passed that test, the motors wire needed checking for correct orientation
to ensure it runs forwards ....  [Image: smile.png]

[attachment=4812]
All good so the wire can now be shortened and fixed properly in place ....

[attachment=4813]
A quick shot of the fully reassembled car. The LED is unobstructed and the guide
turns freely in both direction ....

[attachment=4814]
finished and running a sweet as a nut ....  and just look at the detail of the treads on
the tyres ....  Wrench

Well done Scalextric on producing such a superb model which was a joy
to work on. Surpisingly, this is not the hardest car that I have digitised. I
would rate it about the same as a Lotus 49. Simon from Scalextric didn't
think that it could be done ......   [Image: cheers.gif]

A superb model from Scalextric and one which is one of the most often requested car for me to digitise ...

[Image: post-11296-0-17446400-1568408822.jpg]
Three lovely minis which if they were mine, would also have had 13k or 16k motors
fitted as well ....

[Image: post-11296-0-61024100-1568408827.jpg]
The wiring socket has been removed to allow greater freedom and a lot more
wriggle room. The original connections are the square pads in the centre; the
round pads are alternative soldering points ...

[Image: post-11296-0-46783900-1568408832.jpg]
Four different coloured wires are not really necessary so just two where used; red
for the power to the motor and black for the pickup from the track. The LED
emitter is seen with the red & black wires. This is now ready to be installed into
the first of the Minis .....

[Image: post-11296-0-91232200-1568408843.jpg]
Before that can be done, the wiring for the lights needs replacing. Two very long
pieces are used as these will be cut into the black pickup wires before continuing
on to be terminated on the front lighting board ...

[Image: post-11296-0-24451200-1568408848.jpg]
The chip is now installed with some hot-glue applied to the right side of the traction
magnet ensuring that all wiring is clear of the driveshaft and gearing ...

[Image: post-11296-0-42345400-1568408856.jpg]
A clear shot of how the chip is anchored and the wiring is gently led around the motor.
The red wire by the back wheel is the long lighting wire from the rear lighting-board ...

[Image: post-11296-0-73137000-1568408863.jpg]
One of the features of silicone wire is that the insulation can be easily removed. Here
a sharp knife was gently rolled around the wire enabling a gap to opened up. The long
wires from the rear-lighting board are also opened up in the same manner. This allows
the wire to be twisted one over the other to form a very strong and secure joint after
a dab of solder is applied. The ubiquitous heat-shrink is also applied to insulated the
circuit. The red wire is joined in an identical manner. Finally, the bare ends of the rear
wires can now be soldered onto the front lighting-board.

[Image: post-11296-0-80373900-1568408868.jpg]
The headlamps are well executed

[Image: post-11296-0-58067300-1568408876.jpg]
There can be no doubt that these Minis and the F1 Legends are Scalextric's finest
models by a country mile. Non of these grotty water stickers here, just proper
tampo printing.

Greg

I have a Mini on its way to me that I will need to digitise, so the info in this post is priceless. What I cannot picture in my head is how the piggybacking of the lighting feed onto the guide cables looks. Can you offer any more information on that part of the install?

Thank you.

Give me a bit of time and I'll put together some more detailed photos for you .......   Thumbup

RE: Chipping Database - BAracer - 19th-May-20

Smashing. No hurry.

Just a simple guide...not being very electronic, I struggle to understand the science behind which wire goes where!

Another superbly detailed car from long ago .....
 Hi. I,m in need of some chip repairs. How do I get in touch?  John Watts

Quite simply a great looking car ... nice one Scalextric ....  [Image: smile.png]

Despite the narrowness of the body, there was plenty of room beside the
motor for everything to fit in ....

Checking the leg room for Messrs Greenwood & Smothers ....

I'm glad I changed the yellow lights for white ones ....

Oh yeah ............
