RE: Scorpius v Oxigen - ScorpiusWireless - 2nd-Aug-25

So Oxigen users would you like a real race? Maurizio?

RE: Scorpius v Oxigen - Nonfractal - 3rd-Aug-25

Wouldn't it make more sense to hold a scorpius event first?

RE: Scorpius v Oxigen - ScorpiusWireless - 3rd-Aug-25

What makes you think we won’t?
These would be DISCA events or similar. Multi branded. Not controlled by any one manufacturer. Like 1:1. That’s the goal.
But if I set up a Scorpius race it wouldn’t be hard to make it oxigen compatible due to our multi protocol Lane Brain chip for lane changing if oxigen users wanted to join in.

As soon as you have prospective dates and locations for an event, please post it.
I'm sure there will be oxigen racers wilĺing to give it a go.
ALAN.

Ok hardware has arrived for 02 compatibility using Scorpius Controller.
The MPD below is specifically set up for 02 only.

As you can see the LED for lane changing connected by JST top second from right.
Hall sensor for lap counting the 4 pin data port bottom side right. It’s set up for 23mm offset to pass directly over the magnet. It’s a digital omnidirectional type.
Then we have 24 hour gear, full light set, super capacitor and OLED screen so you can see car number in dark sections.
Motor arrestor included for cleaner BEMF and we have the hall sensor already added to telemetry.
Lane changing protocols are sorted and the only last piece of the puzzle is to add 02 lap counting code to our car telemetry (instead of via controller).
If any 02 enthusiasts want to beta test?
Just PM me.

So….who wants a race?

Quote:I'm up for beta testing,
I'll send you a PM ASAP
There is an oxigen event this weekend.
Track setup is tonight.
Main event on Sunday
If you can get a chip to me, I'm happy to test.
Alan.

Thanks Alan,
It’s a chip and controller pair not just a chip.
We’re still to start the lapcounting firmware as mentioned.
You MUST have a 02 home track sorry I should have mentioned.
It won’t work until bugs are ironed out and that won’t be happening at a race event.

Beta testing often mean hours of testing then making reports, countless emails, uploading new firmware and then repeating the process. Testers would also need to learn how the controller operates which takes time. Which is why you’d need to carry out testing on a relaxed, quiet environment without distractions ie a home circuit.
Maybe you do have a home track.

Big thanks regardless. Thumbup

I’ll answer your PM.

If the proprietary lap counting were completely abandoned at an event, replaced by a separate transponder system, maybe multiple car-control systems could run concurrently on the same track?

If oxigen and scorpius (and any other system) were ONLY controlling the cars and the lane changers, the whole thing would be simpler.

In oxigen, lap counting is weak.
Chrono is a weak point. Crashing Often.
Lap counting triggered by the in car hall sensor Is also a weak point, easily damaged causing counting errors and causing the carscto go into "pit lane mode"

Alan

Ok it just dawned on me I can mount a MYLAPS RC-4 transponder orca number of others onto a tiny PCB that accommodates a 4 wire data port. These typically run on 3V.

This auxiliary unit plug into Data Port 2 on the MPD. Now use the MPDs 52832 processor to configure the transponder.
Job done.
So the MPD is transponder compatible. Again plug n play.

This deserves another thread.

Thanks Alan.
I thought of transponders years ago but gave up on it. You refreshed my mind. I realised today the data port makes it possible now. And as an option. Cheers!

So making an O2 compatible system requires solid understanding of the system. One of the key aspects is lane changing and lapcounting.
I just read an online article stating they are converting IDs 7-20 to proprietary strobing using converter.
I’d like to say this is a complete fabrication as the O2 system only uses the led for lapcounting with ssd 1-6 and lane changing using any of the ssd IDs space mark ratio 1-6 inverted. So much for “smart LEDs”.

This does make life easy though as we have studied all the SSD ID characteristics including lane changing.
Lapcounting will be the biggest challenge. That is coding it correctly so the various race management systems can receive the correct message. If we can get that right then we we will have a compatible system. The aim? Competition.
