If Rick made any of the minor changes to the controller interface and PC app that have been requested years ago, it would change my opinion of the controller quite a bit for the better.

Things like lengthening the timeout for being in the menu system of the controller. It currently will kick you back out to the main screen after a set number of seconds, even while actively changing settings. Trying to alter all ten points, or even accessing them to write them down, is frustrating.
Adding any kind of save/load/memory in the controller config PC app, so that you don't have to manually program an entire curve every time you want to send a new one, or a minor alteration of an existing one.
Being able to read all ten curves from the controller into the PC app, and load back all ten after making your changes.
There were some others, but those were the ones I felt would make the biggest usability difference. You can find a lot of feedback in various Scorpius threads on SlotForum from years ago.

I have been looking at Oxigen and Scorpius for later down the road as options for a more robust home setup and am wondering if any of you have opinions on which system would be a better investment. What interests me is ghost cars, pit lane speeds-- which system is more robust and will give me the least amount of headaches?
An additional question I have: I don't really want to invest in Carrera wireless controllers because I plan on eventually incorporating one of these systems. From this angle, it seems like it's a better option to go wired and add the wireless receiver when I'm ready to buy into either the Oxigen or Scorpius.
Can any of you seasoned hobbyists weigh in? What's the most cost-effective way of doing this? I hope my questions make sense and am eager to hear your insight.
A biased view from Team Scorpius.
You can’t beat Carrera for home use. Good value. Although our car decoders are actually cheaper despite what some might tell you. And half the size.
But if you want the fastest lap times and not having to upgrade controllers, if you like fine tuned 256 step brakes and precise 256 step throttle control, anti collision, best line racing, telemetry as standard and free quick easy firmware upgrades Scorpius works out the cheapest of all. And the only system that offers a full no questions asked refund if not 100% satisfied. What do you have to lose? We will even pay the return postage.
It’s also the most reliable fully wireless system, along with the industries best boot loader and DFU (upgrades using phone), proven.
But it’s not apples v apples.
Have a look here:

Next week I’ll do the lane changer comparison.

A good post to follow is on SFI - Chris - My oXigen journey. He has a working O2v3 Carrera setup that is working well...
There is a lot of good advice above. The toy guys have robust digital systems and the majority start with one of them (Carrera for me).
To various degrees, I use Carrera, oXigen and Scorpius. I have SmartRace but as a lone user don't really use RMS or Simulation to their full potential.
As for controllers I prefer wireless. I have both types of Carrera controllers but do not use them - okay to start with but... For Carrera Frankenslot - the only option that I am aware of for wireless. My favorite is the SCP3 but only with O2 chips ©. The lack of an advanced feature rich controller for Carrera will always be limited by the CU (firmware and protocol)
The RF guys are comprised of small development teams and their primary focus is on their specific digital system. Hybrid approaches either do not exist or are confound.
Some of us are hacking our way toward hybrid alternatives but there isn't any commercially available 3rd party solutions that I am aware of. Henri on SFI has suggested he might have something early this year. I have all the protocol pieces figured out but haven't found the motivation, yet, to take it to the next level (coding).
Ghost cars are a nice feature of digital slots to the limitation of their respective implementation. There are those of us hacking out alternative approaches but, again, nothing that is commercially available nor with plans to become commercially available. I did an implementation that was more of a smart controller that resulted in a competitive multi-speed autonomous solution. Plan was to revisit this but diversions persist!

Hi Yattr,
Scorpius is about to embark on a dual Comms system that will give Carrera users dozens of Scorpius features. It’s going to be a fun 2024

Details soon.
PS. We are implementing the full Carrera protocol as we speak.
Carrera Wireless controller after that.

Many good replies here, don't have to add much.
I moved from Wood/Scorpius to Scalextric digital, I just wanted to play and I love the plug and play of the Arc Pro in combination with the DPR chips, no soldering or whatever needed. The newer Slot.It cars can also easily be chipped now, so I use 15B chips to run on SSD.
But the main feature that only the Arc Pro offers is analog running by only changing a knob on the base. This means I can run my analog cars as well and I don't need to chip them every time I want to run them. It's still without brakes as the standard controllers (or SCP3) are used and cannot be compared with a full analog track and high end controller but it is analog
I think with Carrera this is only possible after some changes, the Germans call it "dual betrieb", you can find a lot of information on the Freeslotter.de forum.

Wow Hank,
To run analogue on Scorpius you simply use a positive wired driver station and wire the track as any positive wired track. Then simply bridge 2 pins with a $1 jumper wire for Scorpius.
Total cost:
Driver station plug $30
Jump wire $1
And you get true Analogue with brakes.
Or you can use 2 double pole switches cost $7

Still not plug-and-play without soldering
Scorpius and Oxigen are aimed at the clubs, so you can run up to 20/24 cars on one track.
At home on my 16m Scalextric 4 cars is enough and 6 is plenty so SSD with the Arc Pro fills al my bills, but some will have different needs or opinions.

Yeah but I have real analogue with real brakes for $30
And adjustable for both digital and analogue.
This carves 10ths off lap times but more importantly makes for a far better driver experience
Try the crimp on terminals if soldering isn’t your thing.
