A bit like the Lancia Beta then.
I was thinking it has more of the celica about it tbh, they both carry more of their width in the body rather than the chassis. The beta has a fairly square chassis, but big overhangs, relatively.

May struggle in a straight fight against the other group 5s as it's short, narrow chassid and tall, the body also comes in at 20g with no interior or wing attached. But short overhangs and a pretty optimised guide to rear axle length so who knows! Will be able to test it out in a couple of weeks time.

Sounds and Looks similar to the Sideways BMW 320 In that respect, although the chassis dogbone shape is more Capri/Mustang.
The 320 is a good performer despite its taller boxy shape so who knows  Cool

Either way, I will likely have a pair as home racers so they will only be racing each other for me  Bigsmile

Yeah good shout, pic may not be very easy to make out as all in different states of 'undress' but l-r Capri, celica, escort, 320. .

We limit our 'Standard Class' cars to original manufacturers chassis and pod and motor from their range - such a shame Racer/Sideways don't do a SW pod and S-can motor as these go so much better in that configuration.

RE: Racer Sideways Ford Escort Group 5 - ABBO - 16th-Apr-22

Received mine and what a pile of poo!
In this day and age there is no excuse for such bad construction in the factory...
1 - Interior not even heat welded into place, so just fell out. (Did it myself with a heated screwdriver in a couple on minutes)
2 - Chassis badly warped (Used wife's hairdryer and a little persuasion).
3 - Pinion pushed so far in it was barely touching the gear. (Removed motor and used appropriate tool to pull pinion back about 1.5mm)
4 - Body screws so tight, I thought I was going to break the body taking it apart. (Prayed to the dear Lord that nothing would break).
5 - Front track - wheels were put on so far on they rubbed against the chassis (cured with some spacers).

OK - all the above I have fixed quite easily, but if you're a newbie, all of this things would probably make me send the car back and steer clear of that company in the future.

On track... this is going to be the slowest Group 5 I have. I've managed to get it running smoothly after fettling, but it's so far off the pace (very tippy compared to all others in the series), that it'll be consigned to running laps at home when I feel like it.

In fact, I would rather they had done an "NSR" with the dimensions and lowered the body and increased wheel base to bring it up to speed. But, hey ho...

RE: Racer Sideways Ford Escort Group 5 - Savage GT - 17th-Apr-22

The short front axle/ front wheels way inboard, is a common theme on Sideways Group 5 cars. When you buy axles its usually little or no cost difference to get a pair of 55mm than a pair of 45mm so maybe they are saving money on installing spacers ?  Rofl

The other stuff doesn't sound promising for QC.

As regards the slowest Group 5, I was expecting that personally.
I would go out on a limb and say you will likely find they have already taken liberties with scale width.

But its A: an Escort and B: doesn't have the oversized arches that blights several of their GT3 range, so I will buy a couple to race each other at some point.

Hopefully the white kit will be available soon ...
